Jacqueline to Be Inducted into 2016 WWE Hall of Fame

WWE confirmed Monday that Jacqueline will be the next inductee into the company's 2016 Hall of Fame class, per a report from FoxSports.com (via WWE.com's Bobby Melok).

"I was so overjoyed," she said in an interview with FoxSports.com's Nick Schwartz upon hearing the news. "It's a great honor, it's the highest honor to receive in WWE, and to be in my home town...it means so much to me."

The former Diva was a two-time women's champion during her run in WWE. Former WWE announcer Jim Ross believe the Hall of Fame is an honor she more than earned:

Women's wrestling in WWE largely remained dormant for much of the mid-to-late 1990s after Madusa dropped the title into a garbage can on an episode of WCW's Nitro:

The company revived the Women's Championship in 1998, and Jacqueline defeated Sable on Sept. 21 of that year to capture the belt. According to WWE.com, she held it for 55 days before losing to Sable at Survivor Series 1998. Jacqueline's second women's title reign started on Feb. 3, 2000, after she beat Hervina—Harvey Wippleman dressed in drag.

In 2004, Jacqueline also shocked the WWE Universe when she answered Chavo Guerrero's open challenge and won the WWE Cruiserweight Championship:

Following the end of her run in WWE, she made sporadic appearances in TNA. Her most memorable feud in the company came against fellow WWE alumna Gail Kim:

Jacqueline, along with others such as Lita, Trish Stratus, Ivory, Molly Holly and Victoria, helped bring the Divas division back into the consciousness of WWE fans. Their combined work helped to set the stage for the Four Horsewomen, who subsequently revolutionized women's wrestling in NXT.

Jacqueline is a fitting inductee this year. The Dallas native won't have to travel far for the ceremony ahead of WrestleMania 32 in Arlington, Texas. She joins Sting, The Fabulous Freebirds, The Godfather and The Big Boss Man in the 2016 class.
