Should The Football Gurus Just Admit Defeat By Virginia Tech

Kevin McGradySep 27, 2009

In the first real Barn Burner game of the season most of the Gurus came out and predicted Virginia Tech to defeat Alabama or at least cover the spread. Well, Alabama was much better than advertised and even though Virginia Tech put up a valiant effort they were soundly beaten. This so embarrassed the gurus that they can not seem to get it in their head that this is a good football team.

In game two Virginia Tech dominated Marshall with an offensive show. The pundits still declared that Virginia Tech has no offense. When Virginia Tech beat a good Nebraska team 16-15 this seemed to confirm in their minds that Virginia Tech was a one dimensional team that under performed on offense.

Along come week four and Miami is coming to town. Every major pundit predicted a domination by Miami. Virginia Tech got no respect. Nebraska even suffered from its loss to Virginia Tech as it seems they were beaten by a bad team. Virginia Tech exposed Miami for what they were. A team that had played two games against mediocre teams and won like they should. Virginia Tech is no mediocre team. Miami was sent back to South Florida with their tail between their legs and the athletic department calling Tommy Tuberville for help. I think Notre Dame has first Divs though.

It is time to fess up and say. Alabama is better than we ever thought and Virginia Tech is an excellent football team. The Virginia Tech Hokies will likely win the ACC without much problem. There is no silver bullet waiting for them down the line. They are a step ahead of the rest of the ACC.

It is funny, all of this arrogance by the gurus. Is it better to admit you are wrong in week three or prove you are a fool in week four. West Virginia will likely win the Big East and they are not ranked. Virginia Tech will likely win the ACC and they get no respect. Is this due to loosing one game? I don't think so as the top 25 is chock full of one loss teams. I think there is a prejudice in the polls and football gurus against teams that loose to the SEC. I can find no other reason why two great football teams are being disrespected by the football gurus (mentally challenged) of our great nation.

We have a host of undefeated teams, and yet we have teams with a loss in the Top 25. I can't figure that one either. I can not predict what will occur come season end. I do know that West Virginia and Virginia Tech will be in the Top 25 though and in some bowl game and likely a BCS bowl. Gone are the days of Florida State and Miami dominating anything. There is no sense in resurrecting them  only to look foolish. They may have a decent team once in a while, but neither will ever dominate the ACC again. Cincinnati is a fair team, but they are not better than West Virginia. Wake up gurus most of you missed the majority of your calls last week due to prejudice. Penn State was a pretender and it was easy to see. Cal was a pretender put in place after USC did its annual disgrace game. Ole Miss was wishful think from the start. No one wanted to believe an SEC doormat team could whip Texas Tech. I have news for these people Mississippi State could do the same. Ole Miss is fifth out of a six team division. I could go on and on. The moral is use your eyes and head or keep your mouth shut. If you do not know do not give an opinion. Think with you head not your heart. Everyone wants a strong team from the ACC or Big East or Pac 10 to compete with the SEC. It is good for football for this to be so. It just is not there this year. Now go out and give these two great teams the respect they deserve.
