John Cena: News, Rumors on WWE Star's Recovery from Surgery for Week of March 3

Sebastian MaldonadoMar 3, 2016

WrestleMania season wouldn’t be complete without news of John Cena.

The 15-time world champion suffered a shoulder injury and hasn’t been seen in two months. WrestleMania 32 will have to move on without Cena, the WWE’s face.

Then again, will fans really not see Cena at WrestleMania?

It’s all hands on deck. Come April 3 at Arlington, Texas, everyone needs to be involved in The Grandest Stage of Them All. The AT&T Stadium needs to be filled to capacity for WrestleMania 32 to become successful.

The current lineup leaves much to be desired. Brock Lesnar will fight Dean Ambrose in a No Holds Barred Street Fight. The Undertaker and Shane McMahon return to battle in a Hell in a Cell match.

The main event will feature Roman Reigns trying to regain his WWE title against the current chief operating officer and champion, Triple H.

These are the top three matches for WrestleMania. They don’t seem to draw the masses on paper.

Though each match could turn out to be amazing, it appears they don’t have enough drawing power. Lesnar, Undertaker and Triple H are big names, but they don’t have the firepower to draw in every fan.

Bear in mind The Rock will appear in an undisclosed role. It’s unlikely that he will wrestle due to his filming schedule, though.

Enter Cena, the face of WWE’s franchise who appeals to the masses. Unfortunately, he’s not coming back anytime soon, but as mentioned earlier, it’s not WrestleMania season without him.

That is, unless rumors start swirling.

Cena did make the news this week but not for wrestling. He’ll star in WWE Films’ collaboration with Sony Pictures for Surf’s Up 2: WaveMania.

Other than that, no official news has been released regarding Cena. Yet, throughout the online circuit, rumors keep churning about his return.

According to Sportsrageous, the speculation swirling is that Cena will replace McMahon and face the Undertaker at WrestleMania if Cena is cleared to wrestle.

I did state that this should be Cena’s WrestleMania match, but that was before McMahon entered the picture.

Why would it make sense to put McMahon in a match when he’ll eventually be replaced? Nevertheless, he has posted videos about his training for the bout on Twitter:

Keep in mind that McMahon recently joined Twitter. Showing his training cannot be a sign of wilting, unless it was a work.

Speaking of exercise, Cena has been posting rehab videos on his own Twitter account. It appears he hasn’t lost a step in his workout routine. Plus, he also posted inspirational quotes that embody his motto: never give up:

These rumors have led The Inquisitr to speculate who Cena would actually wrestle if he is cleared to compete. Some of the names are Kevin Owens, Alberto Del Rio, Big Show, Sheamus and Bray Wyatt. Braun Strowman is another name mentioned in the report as well.

The majority of these names are all former opponents of Cena, which could possibly work but would bring nothing new to the table.

Owens, Wyatt and Strowman would be the only ones who benefit from facing Cena at WrestleMania as long as they get the victory. Otherwise, there’s no point in bringing Cena back if he is not used to make everyone else better.

The bottom line is WWE’s medical staff has the final say. If doctors don’t give Cena a clean bill of health, his competing in WrestleMania remains squashed. We’re still fresh from Daniel Bryan’s retirement. To say the least, if Cena is cleared and reinjures himself, the backlash would be unhealthy and distressing.

Cena is the name who would undeniably fill up the AT&T Stadium. However, it should not be at the cost of his health. Even if he makes a miraculous recovery, it’s best for him and for business that Cena sits out WrestleMania 32.
