Kobe, Duncan, Shaq, Iverson and KG Among Decades Best
A couple of days ago Kobe Bryant was named the NBA's player of the decade by Sporting News. In my opinion Kobe is clearly the best player in the past decade. But lets take a look at some of the best players from the past decade.
I compiled a list of the best players from the past decade but I included all of their career accomplishments so some accomplishments are before the decade. All of these guys are top 50 players in NBA history and they are all going to the Hall Of Fame. So here are the top seven players from the past decade in order.
1. Kobe Bryant:
-81 points in a game!!
-seven time All-NBA First Defensive Team.
-Total career points: 23,820.
-Outstanding career averages of 25.1 ppg for his career in both the playoffs and season.
-11 time NBA All-star.
-three time All-Star game MVP.
-two time Scoring champion.
-2007-2008 NBA MVP.
-2009 NBA Finals MVP
-Olympic Gold Medalist 2008
-four Time NBA Champion. (Went to the Finals six times)
- Kobe Bryant is going to go down as one of the top five players to ever play the game of basketball when his career is over and he still has about seven good years left in him to add to his amazing accomplishments.
The guy is the best thing that happened to basketball since Michael Jordan. His accomplishments are amazing but what put Bryant first is the way he takes games over and the fact he is the most clutch performer since Jordan.
There is not anything this guy can not do on the basketball court. Haters don't be surprised if Kobe is holding up five fingers next June.
2. Tim Duncan
-1997 NBA Rookie Of The Year. -11 Time NBA All-Star.
-2000 All-Star Game MVP
-2002 NBA MVP
-2003 NBA MVP
-1999 NBA Finals MVP
-2003 NBA Finals MVP
-2005 NBA Finals MVP
-2000 Olympic Gold Medalist
-four time NBA Champion.
- He could easily have been number one if Kobe was not the player he was in games but Tim Duncan is going down as one of the 10 best players ever.
Tim Duncan breathes excellence and he may just piss excellence as well. There have been few guys who have won like Tim. Tim Duncan has done it all and there is nothing that he has left to accomplish this guy is hands down the best power forward EVER.
3. Shaquille O'Neal:
- 27,619 career points.
- Career averages of 25 points and 11 rebounds.
- 15 time NBA All-Star.
- 1992-93 NBA Rookie of the Year.
- Olympic Gold Medalist.
- 2000 All-Star game MVP
- 2004 All-Star game MVP
- 2009 All-Star game MVP - two time NBA Scoring Champion.
- 2000 Finals MVP
- 2001 Finals MVP
- 2002 Finals MVP
- 14 time All-NBA selection.
- four time NBA Champion.
- There are two guys in the past decade that have, BARELY, had a better decade than Shaq. But there are no players on this list that have the career Shaq has. He is also going to go down as one of the top six or seven players ever.
Like Bryant and Duncan there is nothing Shaq has not done. He could easily have been number one on this list but some injured seasons in the past four years hurt his ranking. His resume speaks for itself, Shaq is the most Dominating Player Ever.
4. Allen Iverson:
Before I list his accomplishments, keep in mind Iverson is six foot tall and 165 lbs.
-23,982 career points.
-5511 career assists.
-Amazing career averages of 27.1 ppg, 6.2 apg and 2.2 spg.
-Amazing Playoff career averages 30 ppg (2nd all-time) and 6 apg.
-1996-1997 NBA Rookie of the year.
-10 Time NBA All-Star.
-2001 All-Star game MVP
-2005 All-Star game MVP.
-three time steals champion.
-four-time NBA scoring champion. -2001 NBA MVP
- Iverson is easily the best little man ever. This guy has accomplished every individual thing there is to accomplish. Hands down dude is easily the top 25 players to ever play the game. He revolutionized the game and at six feet and 165lbs has the best stats in the past decade. He is arguably the best scorer in the league since Jordan and is arguably the toughest player ever.
He has done so much at such a small size and he is amazing. He has no ring that is why he is fourth on this list but despite winning a ring he has one of the greatest careers in NBA history and just like Kobe, Tim and Shaquille, A.I. is a living legend and just like them for Iverson it has been a decade of greatness.
5. Kevin Garnett:
- Career points 21,277.
- Career rebounds 11,682.
- 10 time All-NBA Defensive Teams.
- 12 time NBA All-Star.
- 2003 All-Star Game MVP
- 2008 NBA Defensive Player of the Year.
- Olympic Gold Medalist 2000.
- 2004 NBA MVP
- 2008 NBA Champion.
- Garnett is arguably among the top three power forwards ever. He has done everything in this league and is going to go down as one of the best players ever. He put the D in Defence for his entire career and now is one of the most feared players in the league.
Kevin Garnett is one of a kind and that ring he got last year put him up there with the greats. There are not many teams that can stop the Celtics next season if KG is healthy because when he is the results are amazing (see above). KG is another living legend.
6.LeBron James:
LeBron in six years:
-12,993 career points, 3159 assists and 3,307 rebounds.
-Career Averages of: 27.5 ppg, seven apg and seven rpg. Playoffs: 29.4 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 7.3 apg.
-2003-04 NBA Rookie Of The Year.
-five time NBA All-star
-two time NBA All-Star Game MVP
-one time NBA Scoring Champion
-one Finals appearance
-2009 NBA MVP
- In six years!! That is pretty amazing. At this rate James will be number one in no time. Mark my word James will be top five in NBA history when it is all said and done. The scary part is he is still getting better and the rings are soon to come and more MVP's, scoring titles and other awards.
He may be riding passenger to Kobe in the best player in the game seat as of right now but next year could be the year where LeBron takes the torch from Kobe and starts to amaze the world more than it already has been amazed.
James is legendary already and has maybe 14 more years left in him. The guy is a freak of nature and has already accomplished so much. LeBron's destiny is number one.
7. Steve Nash:
- 7505 assists for his career and averages eight assists for his career
- six time all-star
- NBA MVP 2005
- NBA MVP 2006
- Nash is going down as one of the greatest PG's of all time despite only being named to six all-star teams and not having outstanding career averages. Nash was a late bloomer and it resulted in two NBA MVP's. There are not to many guys that can say they won back to back MVP's in the NBA.
Nash is unstoppable when he is running and gunning and it started to show at the end of last season when the Suns played the uptempo style they are used to. Nash in the two MVP years was nothing short of amazing and guys like Kobe, LeBron, Shaquille O'Neal, Kevin Garnett and Allen Iverson who have had better careers than Nash are losing to him in one category and that is the MVP.
