Coleman Out with Knee Injury

Thursday, Feb. 25

Coleman will miss on-field workouts at the combine after undergoing surgery on his torn right MCL, per Brandon Marcello of AL.com.

The redshirt junior—listed at 6'6" and 313 pounds—was projected to go in the late first to early second round, according to CBS Sports.

Coleman was the No. 1 prospect in the state of Mississippi in 2010, per 247Sports. After he committed to Auburn, the 4-star tackle was diagnosed with leukemia. On Sept. 7, 2013, he played his first college game against the Arkansas State Red Wolves.

Rated as the fifth-best offensive tackle in the upcoming draft, per CBS Sports, Coleman suffered the injury Nov. 14 against the Georgia Bulldogs.

Marcello noted Coleman may not be cleared for football activity until the middle of April.

"It was something I was looking forward to," Coleman said, per Marcello. "I really believe I'm one of the more athletic big men out here. For me to not be able to come out and be able show that, it's very frustrating. At the same time I have a plan to come back and get everything ready."

Although he has a chance to be a late-first round pick, Coleman struggled with his bench press. James Crepea of AL.com noted Coleman completed 22 reps, which tied for 30th among linemen who benched at the combine.

"I think I could have gotten a couple more reps," Coleman said, per Marcello. "That was around the aim I was looking for."

CBS Sports draft expert Dane Brugler noted Coleman relies on his agility and quick feet to contain edge-rushers. "Coleman needs to do a better job controlling the point of attack with his strong hands instead of just jolting his target, but he has a quick punch and recoil and always keeps busy," he said. "He has agile feet to comfortably seal the edge or get to the second level and has a lot of NFL-ready tools."

Coleman will not participate at Auburn's pro day March 7, per Marcello. Whichever team selects Coleman will be taking a chance on someone who is talented but may not be fully healthy when training camp begins.
