Diamondbacks P Josh Collmenter Gives Physics Lesson to Teammates in Clubhouse

Kyle NewportFeb 23, 2016

Team chemistry is something that just can't be taught—but what about physics?

Per Steve Gilbert of MLB.com and Nick Piecoro of AZCentral.com, 30-year-old Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Josh Collmenter—a Central Michigan alum—has turned the Diamondbacks clubhouse into a classroom early on in spring training.

After having some intellectual conversations with his teammates recently, Collmenter decided to share his veteran knowledge with other Arizona players.

Not just about pitching, however—about whatever his teammates want to discuss.

Here's what Professor Collmenter had to say about his classes, per Piecoro and Andrew Joseph of AZCentral.com:

"

We just pick random topics and if anyone has a suggestion we'll talk about that. It's not always going to be as in-depth as this, but it sort of expounded upon what we did the first day. I think tomorrow's lesson will be a little more, not so practical, but a little more lighthearted I think.

"

Collmenter is taking his role of professor very seriously, breaking out a dry-erase board to teach a physics class Tuesday morning:

Although the physics students were mainly pitchers, any Diamondback is welcome to sit in on the class. Being a pitcher, the right-hander slyly took a shot at position players for perhaps not being able to fully comprehend the lessons.

"From what I've gathered, pitchers are the more intelligent species anyway, so it's a lot easier to talk to them than it would be some of the position players," Collmenter said, per Joseph and Piecoro.

The Diamondbacks have to be hoping these classes can lead to some wins on the field.
