Liverpool Transfer News: Gianluigi Donnarumma Wanted, Latest Reds Rumours

Rob BlanchetteFeb 22, 2016

Liverpool have joined a host of European clubs chasing young AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, according to reports in Italy.

Italian newspaper Tuttosport (h/t Aaron Flanagan of the Mirror) claim the Anfield giants will pursue the 16-year-old No. 1, who has become one of the most desired stoppers on the continent.

The teenage prodigy made his debut for the San Siro outfit earlier this season, and has appeared 17 times in Serie A, keeping six clean sheets this term, according to Squawka.com.

Manager Jurgen Klopp is believed to be considering alternatives to current first-choice keeper Simon Mignolet, per Flanagan, after a string of inconsistent performances, and will battle Manchester United and Chelsea for the Naples-born starlet. The Blues are reportedly considering a £30 million offer for Donnarumma as they look to rebuild after a disappointing season.

Here is a video displaying why the Italian is highly rated:

Milan president Silvio Berlusconi has said the Rossoneri will resist all attempts from Europe's elite to sign Donnarumma, per Premium Sport (h/t Daily ExpressDan Gibbs):

"

Donnarumma is 16 years old, he is admired by all and he won't leave Milan, whatever offer might come in.

He will be the Milan goalkeeper for the next 20 years. He is a good lad, very strong physically, mentally and in terms of his character.

I think he can be a Milan star of the future.

"

Matteo Bonetti of beIN Sports was extremely impressed with the No. 1's performance for Milan in a 0-0 draw with Atalanta earlier in the season:

The goalkeeper became the youngest stopper to ever start a Serie A match in October, per Gibbs, and will become vital to Milan's cause as they chase lost glories.

However, the seven-time European champions no longer hold the allure they once did and haven't won the top division in Italy since 2011.

In other news, Joao Teixeira is wanted by Huddersfield Town on loan and could be farmed out to the Championship club due to Klopp's close relationship with Terriers manager David Wagner.

Wagner worked under Klopp at Borussia Dortmund, and Alan Nixon of the Sun said the 23-year-old Portuguese attacker could temporarily join the west Yorkshire team.

Nixon reported Klopp is keen to keep the youngster at Liverpool and wants him to sign a new contract in the summer when his current deal expires, leading to a season-long loan elsewhere. "Huddersfield have expressed a major interest" in taking Teixeira, who has impressed when selected by the Reds.

Teixeira is a potential star of the future and he has grown immeasurably since signing for Liverpool in 2012.

He looked potent and creative while on loan at Brighton and Hove Albion last season, and appeared ready to break into ex-boss Brendan Rodgers' squad before the coach was dismissed.

The midfielder will have plenty of suitors in the coming months as his deal runs to its conclusion, forcing Klopp to act quickly if he wants to keep the talented player.

Teixeira is likely to want to feature heavily in the first-team squad in the coming months, and might not be motivated to once again take a long loan period in the lower divisions.
