WWE Fastlane 2016: Match Card, Odds, Predictions for Event's Biggest Stars

Aaron BowerFeb 18, 2016

There is growing suspicion that WWE could pull a big swerve this Sunday and cause a shock in the main event at Fastlane.

At one point, Roman Reigns looked a lock for the victory and a second consecutive appearance in the main event of WrestleMania, but circumstances in the past week suggest that may not be as certain as it once seemed.

The odds show Reigns as the heavy favorite, but there's much more to it than meets the eye, you feel.

With some intriguing matches all across the card, interest is growing in Fastlane. Here's the full card, the latest odds courtesy of Odds Shark and some tentative predictions for the biggest stars on the card this Sunday.

Kevin Owens

3 of 6

It's a whirlwind week for Kevin Owens, who heads into Fastlane with a championship around his waist following his victory on Raw this past Monday.

Another match against Dolph Ziggler for the Intercontinental Championship was quickly arranged and confirmed.

It will be one of the earlier bouts of the night, but expect Owens to come through relatively unscathed. Not only has Ziggler picked up some victories against him lately, which makes it more likely that Owens will prevail, but victory here will set him up for a big WrestleMania feud.

Will Sami Zayn step up to the main roster and challenge Owens for the title? Or will it be someone like AJ Styles, allowing them to settle the feud Owens initiated by eliminating The Phenomenal One from the Royal Rumble match?

Prediction: Kevin Owens beats Dolph Ziggler

Brock Lesnar

4 of 6

The main event could go in a whole host of different directions, but you feel Brock Lesnar’s destiny is being screwed out of a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania.

Expect him to dominate most of his match with Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose, showing his physical superiority by tossing both men around for the bulk of the contest. At the end, though, Lesnar will be distracted by Bray Wyatt and The Wyatt Family, costing him his place in the match and a shot at advancing to face Triple H.

There doesn’t seem to be any other direction for Lesnar to head in, and Bray Wyatt seems to be in limbo at the moment regarding his WrestleMania plans.

That should all change on Sunday night.

Prediction: Brock Lesnar is attacked by The Wyatt Family

Roman Reigns

5 of 6

We've assumed that it will be Roman Reigns vs. Triple H at WrestleMania, but what if WWE has a slightly different plan up its sleeve?

Reigns has taken a back seat at times in this three-way feud between himself, Dean Ambrose and Brock Lesnar, and the company also teased tension between Reigns and his "brother" Ambrose on Raw this past week.

Could we see the unthinkable, which would be Reigns' losing out to Ambrose and then turning heel in the process?

It would be a scenario that leaves plenty of WWE fans happy, but there is one significant drawback, and that concerns what Reigns does post-Fastlane.

Any other option apart from his being in the main event would leave the company with little time to throw a feud together for him. However, you feel that’s an easier ask for Reigns than for Ambrose.

Prediction: Roman Reigns turns heel after losing to Dean Ambrose

Dean Ambrose

6 of 6

There seemed to be no other alternative this Sunday than Roman Reigns' winning the main event, but with Dean Ambrose dropping the Intercontinental Championship, you wonder if there's a big swerve in the offing.

This could all just be an elaborate play to make fans take more interest in the main event and believe Ambrose could win, but that would be disappointing if WWE was just using one of its hottest talents to be a pawn in pushing a Reigns victory.

What makes more sense is for Ambrose, the real hero in most WWE fans' eyes, to get the victory against all odds and be able to square off against The Authority.

Reigns vs. The Authority hasn't worked at all, largely because there's no real intrigue in either party. But Ambrose, the ultimate anti-establishment figure, going against The Authority would be much more entertaining.

It's an ambitious prediction, but why not Ambrose?

Prediction: Dean Ambrose wins the main event
