Barcelona Fans Set Up Petition Asking for Javier Mascherano to Take a Penalty
Sunday's 6-1 thrashing of Celta Vigo saw Javier Mascherano make his 264th appearance for Barcelona, taking him level with Ronald Koeman on the list of foreign players to have played for the club.
In those games wearing the famous Barca shirt, Mascherano has won 15 major trophies, including two Champions Leagues, three Ligas and two Club World Cups. But there's one thing missing...a goal.
And so with the Argentinian yet to score for the club, fans have come together to start a petition asking Lionel Messi to let him take a penalty.

"We think Mascherano doesn't have sufficient recognition as a Barcelona star," explains the petition, via Sport. "He has brought so much to the team it seems unfair he's not recognised as he deserves—in football everything's measured in goals so for this we want him to score a goal for Barcelona.
"The most simple way is to let him take a penalty, and we ask Leo Messi to do this."
Considering Barcelona's habit of experimenting with penalties, don't rule it out...
