Blow for Januzaj After Norwich Injury

Friday, Feb. 12

"Jones, Varela and Januzaj were injured in the U21s. They're not nasty injuries but they need time to recover," said United manager Louis van Gaal ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash against Sunderland, per MUTV.

The Belgium international limped off after half an hour in United U21's 7-0 mauling of Norwich City on Monday, per Press Association Sport's Paul Hirst.

It is a big blow for Januzaj as he has been looking to force his way back into the senior team since his January return from a torrid loan spell at Borussia Dortmund.

He played four minutes of United's 1-0 home defeat to Southampton in January, but he has yet to establish himself in the first team again, per WhoScored.com.

The 21-year-old could have been a useful attacking option for Van Gaal against struggling Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

However, the Dutchman will now likely stick with Anthony Martial, Wayne Rooney and Jesse Lingard as the front three against the Black Cats, the trio having looked in decent form against Chelsea in Sunday's 1-1 draw.

It is not yet clear how long Januzaj will be sidelined for, but he will be eager to return to action as soon as possible.
