Von Miller Becomes 4th Linebacker to Win Super Bowl MVP

Bleacher Report MilestonesFeb 8, 2016

Denver Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller capped off a spectacular 2015 campaign in the best way possible, becoming just the fourth linebacker in NFL history to capture MVP honors at a Super Bowl, per ESPN Stats & Info.

Miller joins Chuck Howley (Super Bowl 5, Dallas Cowboys), Ray Lewis (Super Bowl 35, Baltimore Ravens) and Malcolm Smith (Super Bowl 48, Seattle Seahawks), the first of whom is the only player to ever capture MVP honors on the losing team.

Howley accomplished the feat by intercepting two passes and recovering a fumble in a sloppy 16-13 loss to the Baltimore Colts.

In any case, Miller is also just the 10th defender of any position to win the award, per Sportsnet Stats.

The list includes some all-time greats like the aforementioned Lewis, but there are also quite a few no-names who came up with a big play or two on football's biggest stage.

Miller is clearly destined to be the former, having recorded 60 sacks in 72 career regular-season games, with another 6.5 in seven playoff appearances.

Of course, it was hardly a one-man show Sunday night, as Miller only accounted for 2.5 of his team's seven sacks, which tied a Super Bowl record that was set by none other than the legendary 1985 Bears, per Sportsnet Stats.
