Super Bowl Halftime Show 2016: Coldplay Entertainment Odds and Advice

Mike NorrisFeb 7, 2016

As Super Bowl 50 nears, the nation is captivated by the game's storyline of new school (Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton) vs. old school (Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning), but as you wait for the culmination of the game after the first 30 minutes, there's an extended halftime show that will keep you entertained.

The band Coldplay is headlining the event and will be joined on stage by the talented Bruno Mars and Beyonce, per Noelene Clark of Entertainment Weekly. Before halftime festivities, superstar Lady Gaga will sing the national anthem.

Mars took to Instagram to confirm he will perform on football's biggest stage for the second time:

Mars first performed at Super Bowl 48 with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Beyonce was on stage for the first time the year before. It's the first appearance at the Super Bowl for Coldplay. On its official Twitter account, Pepsi, which is sponsoring the show, shared a video of the band rehearsing for its performance:

While bets on the game will take center stage, those interested in placing wages on the entertainment have plenty to choose from. Let's take a look at a few halftime prop bets courtesy of Odds Shark:

Will Left Shark make an appearance on stage during the Super Bowl Halftime Show (Yes, 15-1)?

If you are reading this you most likely know who Left Shark is, but just in case you don't, take a look at this video from Katy Perry's halftime performance last year, per Rolling Stone:

The shark on the left danced out of sequence most of the show and instantly became an Internet sensation. Coldplay lead vocalist Chris Martin was asked if there would be a "Left Shark moment" during this year's performance, and had a sarcastic answer, per ET Canada:

Martin jokes about having all kinds of sharks there, but there is no way he's going to let Left Shark on stage; that would be so 2015.

Advice: Without an option to take "no," stay away from this bet.

Which song will Coldplay perform first?

This is a rather interesting one and much harder than the Left Shark prop. "Adventure of a Lifetime" is the favorite, but it's not clear-cut.

Adventure of a Lifetime+200
Fix You+350
A Sky Full of Stars+ 450
Viva la Vida+500
Clocks+750
Head Full of Dreams+1000
Paradise+1000

There are a lot of good options here, but if you watch the rehearsal video above, it's "Fix You" that gets the most play and even closes out the video. "Paradise" is a classic and it would pay out beautifully, but it's too slow for the Super Bowl.

Advice: "Adventure of a Lifetime" is new and the favorite, but Pepsi might have been trying to tell us something in the video. Go with "Fix You."

What color will Beyonce's footwear be when she comes on stage?

Black+150
Gold/Brown+250
White+275
Silver/Grey+475
Any other color+700

Before choosing what color you think it will be, you can go ahead and eliminate black. That's the color of the boots the mega-star wore during her 2013 halftime show, so count on her coming out strong with a different color.

That puts gold or brown as the favorite and, honestly, it feels like the safest bet of a prop that is more lucky than anything. There is no rhyme or reason as to what other colors outside of black she might pick, so if you are brave enough to put up your hard-earned money on this bet, going with your gut might be the best option.

Advice: If you don't trust your gut, because of the high payout and the fact there are so many possibilities, go with "any other color." If you're risky enough to bet this one in the first place, you might as well go all-in.
