Report: Cavaliers Interested in Dudley

Friday, Feb. 5

According to Dan Feldman of Pro Basketball Talk, Brian Windhorst revealed on ESPN Cleveland that the Cleveland Cavaliers have interest in acquiring the versatile wingman, and they previously attempted to do so last summer.

The 30-year-old veteran is in the midst of his first year with the Wiz after they landed him in a trade with the Milwaukee Bucks this past offseason.

He is currently averaging 8.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists as a do-everything player who shuffles between the bench and the starting lineup.

While Dudley is a useful player, he will become an unrestricted free agent this offseason. Washington is four games out of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, so selling at the trade deadline may be its best course of action.

Per Feldman, prying Dudley away from the Wizards may not be easy since Cleveland doesn't have much to offer outside of a trade exception and a 2018 first-round pick.

The Cavaliers remain the class of the Eastern Conference, but they could certainly use another piece or two to compete with the Golden State Warriors should they meet once again in the NBA Finals.

Dudley is a nine-year veteran who has 29 games of playoff experience to his credit, so he would likely be a great fit in Cleveland.

It is unclear if the Wizards are willing to part ways with him after only half of a season, but if they can get a first-rounder for a player who may not even return in 2016-17, it is worth considering due to their current position in the standings.
