Tasci Examined for Possible Concussion
Wednesday, Feb. 3
According to the Associated Press (for Fox Sports), the former Spartak Moscow defender collided with a team-mate during his first training session with his new club and suffered a possible concussion, which saw him miss his scheduled presentation to the press.
Tasci joined the club near the end of the winter transfer window as defensive cover, following Javi Martinez's decision to have surgery on his knee, per the report.
Martinez joined Jerome Boateng on the sidelines, per ESPN FC, leaving the Bundesliga giants with dangerously few healthy defenders. A quick solution was needed, and Bayern found one in Tasci, who brings plenty of top-level experience to the table.
The 28-year-old played for Stuttgart between 2006 and 2013 before moving to Russia, and he also has a handful of caps for Germany's national team under his belt. Most importantly, he's eligible to play in the UEFA Champions League, meaning Bayern can use him in their round-of-16 tie against in-form Juventus.
Of course, he has to stay healthy until then. DW Sports' Stefan Bienkowski couldn't believe it when he heard he suffered an injury in his first training session, saying: "Bayern Munich must be cursed. New central defender Serdar Tasci is injured."
He may miss Bayern's upcoming Bundesliga match against Bayer Leverkusen, but Pep Guardiola and his staff will have their eyes on the first match against Juventus on February 23, first and foremost. The Bavarians already hold a massive lead in the German top division, and they can afford to drop one or two results while they wait for Tasci to be cleared to play.
Tasci's injury is yet another unbelievable development for Bayern's defensive unit, which can't seem to shake the injury bug. However, the new signing should return to the pitch shortly.
