WWE SmackDown Spoilers: Complete Results and Analysis for February 4

Erik BeastonFeb 2, 2016

Monday night's visit to Miz TV was not quite the rewarding experience AJ Styles probably had hoped it would be. He was berated by the host of the show, a former WWE champion hellbent on demeaning another so-called "indy" darling. Taking exception to the lack of respect shown to him, The Phenomenal One unleashed his frustration on The Miz, setting up a match between the two for this week's SmackDown tapings.

Tuesday night, the Superstars clashed as one-half of a double main event.

In the other marquee match, Roman Reigns renewed his rivalry with The League of Nations, as he squared off with The Bulgarian Brute, Rusev. After being humiliated, eliminated from the Royal Rumble in less than two minutes, would the former United States champion earn vengeance, or would Reigns once again prove to be the superior Superstar?

Fans in Memphis, Tennessee, found out the answer to that question as well as everything the rest of the WWE Universe can expect from this week's SmackDown.

Now you can find out what those in the hometown of the great Jerry "The King" Lawler did, courtesy of our friends over at WrestlingInc.com.

Results

  • Reigns defeated Rusev by disqualification when Alberto Del Rio interfered. Dean Ambrose made the save, but The League of Nations gained the advantage. Reigns grabbed a chair, and the heels retreated.
  • United States champion Kalisto defeated Kevin Owens in a nontitle match after Dolph Ziggler interfered. Owens laid out both babyfaces after the match.
  • The Miz cut a promo on Styles.
  • Ryback defeated Erick Rowan. After the match, Braun Strowman attacked, but Ryback escaped.
  • Renee Young interviewed Becky Lynch before Sasha Banks interrupted.
  • Styles defeated The Miz with the Calf Killer. Chris Jericho, at ringside for the match, asked for a rematch against Styles next week. The challenge was accepted.
  • WWE announced Brock Lesnar for next week's SmackDown.
  • The New Day cut a promo, but The Social Outcasts interrupted.
  • The New Day defeated The Social Outcasts.
  • Divas champion Charlotte defeated Alicia Fox in a nontitle match.
  • Reigns and Ambrose defeated Rusev and Del Rio.

Analysis

Is there any feud more mind-numbing and boring at this point than Reigns and Ambrose vs. The League of Nations? That program failed to set the world on fire a month ago and continues to slog on despite the heels never being portrayed as anything close to a credible threat to the former Shield members.

Continuing that program on a show trying to garner ratings as it completes its transition to USA Network is not necessarily ideal. Unfortunately, a lack of star power and quality heels has left the company with few options.

The most intriguing developmental of Tuesday's tapings, at least on paper, is the continuation of the blossoming Styles-Jericho rivalry.

Styles' use of the Calf Killer introduces another strong finisher to the audience and, in the process, makes him a danger to any opponent given his ability to beat anyone from any position in the ring.

Jericho is the perfect opponent for Styles as he continues to find his footing in WWE, and the announcement of a rematch on next week's show is an ideal next step.

The interaction between The New Day and The Social Outcasts sounds like it could be a boatload of fun given the entertaining qualities of both teams, but it is most likely to be meaningless in the long run.

Kalisto and Owens should be a quality match from an in-ring perspective, but one must question the decision to have Owens losing as much as he has of late, especially as the company struggles to find stars ahead of WrestleMania 32.

Overall, the show should be fun with some extremely fun wrestling. Unfortunately, it appears as though it will be yet another inconsequential broadcast in a long string of them for the blue brand.
