WWE Fastlane 2016: Feuds That Will Increase Excitement for Event

Aaron BowerFeb 2, 2016

The card at WWE's Fastlane pay-per-view on February 21 will look fairly different to the one at WrestleMania the following month—that much we can already work out.

That means there won't be much time for WWE to put some work into rivalries for Mania, but it also means there will be some short-term feuds at Fastlane.

Regardless of that, though, these three rivalries stand out and could be worth keeping an eye on at Fastlane.

Kevin Owens vs. Dolph Ziggler

It's fair to say that Kevin Owens and Dolph Ziggler have had more than a few matches lately, but if WWE manages to drag something effective in the short term out of this rivalry, it could be worth tuning in for.

They always have entertaining matches, as seen on Raw this past Monday.

Owens will surely go after AJ Styles or perhaps even Sami Zayn at WrestleMania in a much more high-profile feud, so he needs something to keep him ticking over.

Working with a guy like Ziggler, who is such a good wrestler in the ring, will be sound preparation for WrestleMania too.

There would be a fairly inevitable outcome, though, as Owens would surely get the win to set him up for Mania. But regardless of that, Owens vs. Ziggler would work right now as almost a holding feud for Owens.

AJ Styles vs. Chris Jericho

Although AJ Styles is set to face The Miz on SmackDown this week, Chris Jericho is waiting in the wings to take on Styles.

There's still more to come from those two guys after their match on Raw last week, and Jericho even admitted he'd be watching this Thursday as Styles and The Miz do battle.

Like Owens, Styles needs something to hold him over for WrestleMania. A feud with Owens would be sensational, and getting ready for that by fighting a top veteran such as Jericho would be great preparation.

As with Owens, expect Styles to get the win. It would be a great feud that would definitely get fans interested for Fastlane, though.

Dean Ambrose vs. Brock Lesnar

Sure, we can throw Roman Reigns into the mix here, but it can't have escaped anyone's attention that WWE shifted the attention on Raw this past week onto Ambrose vs. Lesnar.

There was a quite brilliant opening where Ambrose produced an impressive segment, coming out and squaring up to Lesnar and telling him he didn't fear him at all.

That, of course, led to Lesnar closing the show by hitting Ambrose with an F-5 in the middle of the ring, but you imagine Ambrose's reaction to that next week will be equally as can't-miss and probably a whole lot more unpredictable.

It looks like a good bet that Reigns is going to get the win and advance to WrestleMania to face Triple H, so at least Lesnar vs. Ambrose gives the fans something to look forward to in regard to this match.

Ambrose vs. Paul Heyman on the mic will also be gold when it happens again, too.
