Stoke City Deny Batshuayi Bid

Monday, Feb. 1

According to Darren Lewis of the Daily Mirror, Marseille turned down a £20 million offer from Stoke for Belgium international Batshuayi, who has also been linked with Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, per TalkSport.

The Potters have denied the report, however, per Martin Spinks of the Stoke Sentinel: "The club's hierarchy are also denying they tabled a bid for [Batshuayi], as reported by L'Equipe earlier today."

The 22-year-old has been one of the top breakout performers of the 2015-16 campaign and has already scored 12 goals in 22 Ligue 1 starts, per WhoScored.com. He's been one of the few bright spots for Marseille, who are enduring a disappointing season and are understandably keen to hold onto their star.

Batshuayi is still expected to leave the French club in 2016, but after signing a new deal early in January, a summer move seems more likely.

He'll have the chance to boost his value during the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament, and if he impresses during the summer, it will be even harder for Marseille to turn down the improved offers that will follow.

Stoke City may seem like an unlikely destination, but the Potters have landed ambitious transfer targets before, including Xherdan Shaqiri in 2015.
