WWE NXT: Full Preview, Match Card and More for January 27

The Doctor Chris MuellerJan 26, 2016

Welcome to Bleacher Report's preview for this week's episode of WWE NXT, where we'll take a spoiler-free look at what's in store for the developmental brand's upcoming episode.

We still have a long way to go before TakeOver: Dallas, so the men and women of NXT have plenty of time to build storylines and create opportunities for themselves.

Let's take a look at what's on tap for this week's episode.

TOP NEWS

WRESTLING: OCT 02 AEW Dynamite/Rampage Pittsburgh
Monday Night RAW

The Tag Teams

Two standout tag teams will do battle this week when Jason Jordan and Chad Gable take on Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy.

Gable and Jordan will be using their new team name, American Alpha. These guys have worked hard to earn a reputation as technically proficient wrestlers, and being given a name for their team is a sign WWE is starting to take them seriously.

This is an important match for both teams because whoever wins may end up earning a title shot against Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder in the near future.

Jordan and Gable are great athletes, but they will have to contend with Alexa Bliss outside the ring, and she is known to get involved to help out Blake and Murphy on occasion.

The Women

After The Rock returned on Raw, it only seems appropriate for his cousin to be featured in a match on NXT. Nia Jax will be taking on rookie talent Liv Morgan.

Jax, despite failing to win the NXT Women's Championship from Bayley, is still in the midst of her debut push, so the outcome of this contest seems obvious.

Morgan is still in the phase of her career where she is training, but getting screen time in NXT means she is improving in the eyes of the trainers and bookers.

The women's division is still being rebuilt after losing three of its biggest stars to the main roster, and Jax is one of the girls being positioned as a potential to top talent going forward. Hopefully, they get enough time to make this a bout worth watching.

The Men

Three singles matches will take place this week, with one of them having a big impact on the current title scene. The first bout will be Alex Riley vs. Bull Dempsey.

Riley is fresh off an injury, and he is looking to show everyone why he is still worth the effort of being pushed. Dempsey, on the other hand, is just trying to build some momentum after being put on the back burner for several months.

The second singles match will see Elias Samson do battle with a man by the name of John Skyler. Skyler is not signed to a WWE deal, making this another match with an obvious outcome.

Skyler has wrestled for TNA before, so he may be familiar to some fans. What everyone is really looking forward to is the main event.

Sami Zayn, Samoa Joe and Baron Corbin will take part in a Triple Threat match to determine the No. 1 contender to Finn Balor's NXT Championship.

These are three very different wrestlers, and the contrast in styles should lead to a fun and entertaining bout, especially if they are given a significant amount of time.

With the next TakeOver special being so far away, the winner will likely get his title shot in the near future. Looking at the current landscape, any one of these men would be a good challenger for Balor's title.

We will unfortunately have to wait a little longer to see Austin Aries' first match under the WWE banner, but for now, it looks like we are in for another solid week of action.

What are you looking forward to on this week's episode of NXT?
