Batum Looking to Shake Off Lingering Toe Injury
The 27-year-old originally suffered the injury in a game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Jan. 20. He did return to action Jan. 27 against the Utah Jazz and was in the lineup against the Portland Trail Blazers two days later, but he struggled with just nine total points on 3-of-20 shooting in the two games.
Batum has taken on an important role during his first season in Charlotte after spending the first seven years of his career in Portland. His across-the-board production usually makes up for his lackluster shooting percentage (40.4 percent from the field).
He's remained durable throughout his career. The last time he missed an extended stretch of games came during the 2009-10 campaign, when he underwent shoulder surgery. He has fought through some lingering toe issues throughout this season, though.
With Batum out of the lineup, Jeremy Lamb and P.J. Hairston saw an uptick in playing time.
Batum will slide back into a prominent role now that he's at full strength. His wide-ranging contributions are key to the team's success.
