Here's a shocker.
WWE has a new United States champion, and it's Kalisto, one half of the Lucha Dragons. He defeated Alberto Del Rio on Monday Night Raw for his first-ever singles title.
After the match, WWE got an Instagram moment with the new champ and his belt:
Del Rio's reign as champion comes to an end at a little less than three months.
Much of his WWE contingent rushed to congratulate him, or call him out, after the shocking victory. Del Rio had some strong words for Kalisto, calling the new champ an insect and saying he'll be back:
Senior referee Charles Robinson congratulated Kalisto:
Former U.S. champion and League of Nations member Rusev made sure to give Kalisto his props but let him know who's coming for the gold:
NXT broadcaster Corey Graves expressed how proud he is of a guy who has worked hard to get to where he is:
B/R's Mike Chiari thought the end of Del Rio's lackluster reign was a good thing:
Kalisto has gained a lot of fans since the Tables, Ladders & Chairs pay-per-view. His Salida del Sol off the top of the ladder and through another ladder put him on the map.
That, along with his performance in the WWE World Heavyweight Championship tournament leading up to Survivor Series, has made him a fan favorite worthy of a singles title push.
