Monday Recap
Pospisil edged a close encounter against Karlovic with a fantastic display of serving, as he gave up no break-point opportunities in the entire match.
Indeed, not one break point was offered up by either player in the first set, leading to a tiebreak which Pospisil edged, 7-4.
It was a similar state of affairs in the second as the Croatian looked to get back into the match, but Pospisil eventually broke late on and served out the match to confirm his spot in the second round.
Awaiting the Canadian is Sock after the 23-year-old eased through his first match with a convincing defeat of Dominican Victor Estrella Burgos. The American rattled through the first set, not giving up a single game as he broke three times, per TennisTV:
Estrella Burgos managed to get a foothold in the second to make things competitive, but Sock claimed the single break he needed, while never being troubled on his own serve, to see out the match in under 50 minutes.
Young had a similarly routine win against Auckland-born Finn Tearney. While the home favourite managed a break in each set, he simply was not consistent enough on his own serve and the world No. 46 eased through in straight sets.
Johnson was not so lucky, although he played out a very tight clash against Barton, bouncing back from a set down to force a decider before the Aussie qualifier edged the final set, pouncing on the only break-point opportunity he was offered.
Meanwhile, Haase was clinical in his defeat of Andujar. Though the Spaniard had his chances, he was unable to convert any of his six break chances and Haase prevailed in just over an hour.
Tuesday's schedule sees Britain's Aljaz Bedene take on America's Sam Querrey, while Philipp Kohlschreiber and Benjamin Becker face off in an all-German affair.
