Fantasy Football Rankings: Week 17 Big Board
You’re still here? It’s over. Go home.
OK, so maybe you’re still playing for something in the final week of the regular season, but that’s a pretty risky move and something you might want to discuss with the rest of your league before the start of next season. Luckily, a lot still has to be decided in terms of seeding in both the AFC and NFC and some playoff spots remain.
For the teams that are out of it, evaluation mode is in full swing, and that’s something you’ll have to worry about in Chicago. Last week, running back Jeremy Langford had more carries and more snaps than Matt Forte. It’s the second time in three weeks Langford has had more snaps than Forte, but it shouldn’t come as a surprise. Forte is a free agent, and Langford is likely the future of the position.
We know Chip Kelly won’t be coaching the Philadelphia Eagles this week, but I doubt the offense changes much in five days under interim head coach and offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur. That means you can still plan on playing quarterback Sam Bradford and tight end Zach Ertz if you liked them because of the beatable matchup with the New York Giants.
Whether you’re playing for a championship or just for fun in Week 17, enjoy the last full slate of games we’ll have for nine months. And thanks to all of you for reading each week.
As always, these rankings will be updated throughout the week and right after inactives come down for the early-afternoon games Sunday.

Quarterbacks: On the Rebound
2 of 7
Better than usual
Eli Manning, NYG
After an ugly performance against the Minnesota Vikings, Manning should have a good chance of bouncing back against the Eagles in what’s turned into a meaningless game for both teams. The Eagles have given up 1,219 yards, nine touchdowns and the fourth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks in the last month. Oh, and Manning gets wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. back from his one-game suspension.
Worse than usual
Tyrod Taylor, Buf
Taylor exceeded all expectations this season but has definitely cooled off down the stretch and might have a tough time finishing on a high note with a tough matchup against the New York Jets in Week 17. They held him to 158 yards and just one touchdown back in Week 10 and have given up the fourth-fewest fantasy points to quarterbacks in the last four games.
Avoid
Philip Rivers, SD
Unfortunately for Rivers, his frustrating season will end with a brutal matchup against the Denver Broncos. Denver has held opposing quarterbacks to the seventh-fewest fantasy points in the last four weeks. Back in Week 13, it held him to just 202 yards and no touchdowns. Stay far away from Rivers.
Sleepers
Sam Bradford, Phi
Yes, I’m going back to Bradford after the season he put us all through. That’s because the matchup against the Giants is a good one, as they’ve allowed the fifth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks in their last four games. Also, Bradford has thrown for 741 yards in the last two weeks.

Running Backs: Finish Strong
3 of 7
Better than usual
Tim Hightower, NO
Despite being out of the league for four years, Hightower came through with one of the best performances of his career last week and has a chance to follow that up with a good matchup against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. They’ve been average against fantasy running backs as a whole in the last four weeks, but during that time, they’ve let up 411 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns, so they are vulnerable.
Worse than usual
Denard Robinson, Jac
It’s been a rough go of it for Robinson since taking over for T.J. Yeldon a couple of weeks ago. In his two games as the lead back with Yeldon out, Robinson has 20 carries for 48 yards. He saved some fantasy value with 13 receptions for 97 yards, but that’s not encouraging against the Houston Texans this week. They’ve held running backs to the fourth-fewest fantasy points in the last four games.
Avoid
Eddie Lacy, GB
If you’re feeling confident about Lacy just because he caught a touchdown in garbage time last week, you’re way too desperate to justify using him with any kind of optimism this week. He has just 23 carries for 83 yards in the last two games, and his lone reception went for the aforementioned touchdown. The Packers and Lacy are too big of a mess to trust, even with a decent matchup against the Vikings.
Sleepers
Cameron Artis-Payne, Car
Things didn’t go according to plan for Artis-Payne last week, mostly because the Carolina Panthers never controlled the game against the Falcons and eventually lost for the first time this season. However, Fozzy Whittaker has a high ankle sprain and is likely out, meaning Artis-Payne could start if Jonathan Stewart (foot) isn’t healthy enough to come back yet. If it’s Artis-Payne, you can fire him up against a Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense yielding the 12th-most fantasy points to running backs during the last month.

Wide Receivers: Back in Blue
4 of 7
Better than usual
Antonio Brown/Martavis Bryant/Markus Wheaton, Pit
Yes, I’m coming back to this grouping because I just can’t see these receivers struggling for the second straight week with a great matchup. Last week, they ruined a great opportunity in Baltimore, but at least they're back home in Pittsburgh against the lowly Cleveland Browns. Wide receivers have gotten the Browns for the ninth-most fantasy points, so this should set up as a bounce-back week for the Pittsburgh Steelers and their wide receivers.
Worse than usual
Amari Cooper, Oak
A foot injury hobbled Cooper in last week’s win over the San Diego Chargers, but it also limited him to two receptions for minus-nine yards. He’ll likely have trouble bouncing back against the Kansas City Chiefs this weekend. They held him to four receptions for 69 yards in Week 13 and have been a top-three defense against fantasy wide receivers in the last four games.
Avoid
T.Y. Hilton/Donte Moncrief, Ind
The Indianapolis Colts already put quarterback Charlie Whitehurst on the injured reserve and will likely be without Matt Hasselbeck (shoulder), so with Andrew Luck (kidney) unlikely to play, the Colts are looking at Stephen Morris, Ryan Lindley and Josh Freeman as possible starters. Steer clear of the Colts if possible.
Sleepers
Jordan Matthews, Phi
If you’re still playing fantasy football in the final week of the regular season, you know things can get a little crazy, which is why I have no problem suggesting Matthews as a sleeper this week. He has 14 receptions for 263 yards and two touchdowns in the last two games and now faces a Giants defense that’s yielded the fifth-most fantasy points to wide receivers during the last month.

Tight Ends: Stay Hyped
5 of 7
Better than usual
Zach Miller, Chi
Miller got the biggest bump in the receiving corps for the Chicago Bears last week in the absence of Alshon Jeffery and came through. No matter what happens with Jeffery this week, Miller should be a strong play because the Detroit Lions come into the game giving up the most fantasy points to tight ends in the last month.
Worse than usual
Jordan Reed, Was
This designation has nothing to do with Reed’s talent, especially because he’s been the top tight end over the last month. Unfortunately, the Washington Redskins are locked into the fourth seed in the NFC, so they have nothing to play for this week. Head coach Jay Gruden said the team needed to be smart about possibly resting players, specifically any who are banged up, per Liz Clarke of the Washington Post. Reed has an extensive injury history and was on the injury report last week with a shoulder injury, so you must be concerned with the amount of playing time he’ll get in Week 17.
Avoid
None of note.
Sleepers
Zach Ertz, Phi
It’s taken way too long, but Ertz has finally emerged for the Eagles coming into the last week of the season with a great matchup against the Giants. Over his last two games, Ertz has 21 receptions for 200 yards and a touchdown. Don’t expect the defenses to control this matchup. It looks like a strong finish for Ertz.

Defense/Special Teams: Orange You Glad?
6 of 7
Best options based on matchups
Denver Broncos (vs. SD)
The Broncos remain a top-five fantasy defense coming into this week after racking up 12 sacks, three interceptions and three fumble recoveries while limiting opponents to just 67 points over the last four weeks. Look for them to tee off on Philip Rivers and the Chargers on Sunday. San Diego has given up the fourth-most fantasy points to opposing defenses over the last month.
Cincinnati Bengals (vs. Bal)
Even though the Baltimore Ravens got a solid performance from quarterback Ryan Mallett and an upset victory over the Steelers last week, I highly doubt they keep it up on the road against the Bengals in Week 17. The Ravens have allowed the third-most fantasy points to defenses in the last four weeks, and the Bengals are a top-10 fantasy defense during that time.
Kansas City Chiefs (vs. Oak)
The Kansas City Chiefs are second only to the Arizona Cardinals when it comes to fantasy points scored by a team defense in the last four weeks of the year. Look for them to build on that against an Oakland Raiders team that’s given up the sixth-most fantasy points to defenses in the four games.

Kickers: Stand Pat
7 of 7
Best options widely available on the waiver wire
Chris Boswell, Pit
Boswell was the best fantasy kicker over the last four weeks, with 13 extra points and 10 field goals, including six that went for at least 40 yards. The Steelers should be able to bounce back from last week’s disaster in Baltimore with a beatable matchup against the Browns. Look for Boswell to take advantage of increased opportunities.
