Rams DE William Hayes Doesn't Believe Dinosaurs Existed, Says It's 'Crazy' Talk

Kyle NewportDec 29, 2015

Even though St. Louis Rams defensive ends Chris Long and William Hayes may be good friends, they don't agree about everything. In fact, they are on opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to dinosaurs.

Long is fascinated by dinosaurs but has a hard time talking to his buddy about them—because Hayes doesn't believe they ever existed.

"He thinks archaeologists place bones underground like a parent would place Easter eggs," Long said while laughing earlier this season, per Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com. "They just planted them. It's some large conspiracy. He does not believe that dinosaurs ever existed, and he thinks that mermaids are real. I love dinosaurs, so we have a big point of contention."

There are certain things some people just have to see to believe. The 30-year-old Hayes needs more evidence.

Per Wagoner, Hayes wonders how archaeologists know how dinosaur bones fit together without ever having seen a dinosaur.

"

No, I don't believe dinosaurs existed. Not even a little bit. With these bones, it's crazy because man has never seen a dinosaur, we can agree on that, right? But we know exactly how to put these bones together? I believe there is more of a chance you will find a mermaid than you will a dinosaur because we find different species in the water all the time.

I don't understand how [Long] just believes in dinosaurs. That's just crazy to me. We know they died. We know what a T-Rex eats? That don't sound crazy to you? We have never seen a dinosaur before but we know exactly where every single rib [was] and which rib goes where. That's crazy to me.

"

Wagoner noted that the back-and-forth may have started as a joke. However, he also wrote that the defensive end "vehemently" refuted the long-ago existence of dinosaurs.

It's interesting that Hayes said it's possible mermaids could be real, though he was just arguing there's more of a chance they exist than dinosaurs ever having walked the earth. That, though, is an entirely different discussion for a different time.

Now that Hayes has made his argument, you be the judge: Did dinosaurs exist?
