Antonio Brown Takes HS Football Players to See 'Concussion' Movie

Dan CarsonDec 23, 2015

Concussion might be a good movie. Or it could be trash.

You can decide that for yourself when it debuts in theaters on December 25.

But whatever actual quality Concussion might possess as a work of cinematography, its value will probably be surpassed by the importance of its subject matter: the research into football-related head trauma and the NFL's responses to this research over the years.

Obviously, the league isn't exactly cosigning the film, merely saying "we welcome any conversation about player health and safety," per Sports Illustrated's Peter King. But any hesitation the league office might have about the film hasn't swayed Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown from being one of the first athletes to see it in theaters.

According to WPXI Pittsburgh, Brown took the entire Clairton High School football team to an early screening of the film Tuesday night.

When asked about the reason behind the gesture, the stud wideout said he wanted to make sure young student-athletes are aware of the issues at hand in football.

"These high school kids, they've got to be aware of their future to raise some awareness and some positivity," Brown said. "[And] to come out and to spend some time in the community is always a pleasure."

This is a good thing.

Even if you're skeptical of the research being done in this relatively new field, educating young athletes on the risks inherent in their chosen sport and presenting them with all of the available information on head trauma is a must.

Moreover, it's equally heartening and important to see high-profile players such as Brown who are willing to wade into the #HotTake arena of sports-related head injury and do some research of their own.

Dan is on Twitter. He would've taken the kids to see the Point Break reboot and that's why he is not as good a role model as Antonio Brown.
