Pettine Comments on Gordon

Thursday, Dec. 17

Jeff Schudel of the News-Herald noted that Browns head coach Mike Pettine "said he'd welcome back [Gordon] if Gordon [were] reinstated by the NFL. Gordon [is] on indefinite suspension for substance violations."

Report: Gordon Doing 'Outstanding' Amid Suspension

Wednesday, Dec. 16

Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot supplied the update on Gordon, who has been serving a year-long suspension due to a violation of the league's substance-abuse policy.

Per Cabot, Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel commented on his relationship with the 2013 first-team All-Pro:

ProAthlete TV released a video of Gordon putting his artwork on display at galleries in Miami, Florida. The 24-year-old spoke about how he was "kind of relieved" to have slowed down and found a positive form of expression through art:

Indications are Gordon is making all the right moves to mount a return to the gridiron in 2016. The 2013 NFL receiving champion reached 1,646 yards that year on 18.9 yards per catch in 14 games with QBs who were below average.

It bodes well for Manziel's future that he's maintained a strong bond with the supremely gifted wideout, who presents a change-up from the middling skill players the Browns have surrounded their hopeful franchise signal-caller with.

But both Gordon and Manziel are skating on thin ice. Any major slip-up by either of them could result in their outright dismissal from Cleveland. Gordon in particular has had multiple violations in the NFL's substance abuse program, while Manziel addressed his issues in that area by going to rehab this past offseason.

The pair could well be a dynamic duo to carry the Browns into a new era next season. On the other hand, there's no guarantee Gordon will be reinstated, nor is Manziel's future clear due to a small sample size, his off-field antics and Cleveland's high first-round pick in the 2016 draft.
