McCoy's relationship with Kelly was the primary storyline entering Sunday’s contest. The Eagles traded the star running back to the Bills for linebacker Kiko Alonso during the offseason, and McCoy made a handful of critical comments about that relationship.
Joe Buscaglia of WKBW shared Shady's response when asked about potentially shaking Kelly’s hand on the field when the two teams met Sunday (warning: video contains NSFW language):
What’s more, Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that McCoy hung up on Kelly when the Eagles coach called him in the week leading up to Sunday’s game. Kelly did not mince words when talking about that report, though, via Joe Giglio of NJ.com (warning: video contains NSFW language):
The relationship between former coach and player was initially under the microscope because McCoy did not hold back when discussing Kelly following the trade.
Mike Rodak of ESPN.com passed along a particular quote from McCoy that made headlines from an ESPN The Magazine story in May: “You see how fast he got rid of all the good players. Especially all the good black players. He got rid of them the fastest. That's the truth. There's a reason. ... It's hard to explain with him. But there's a reason he got rid of all the black players—the good ones—like that.”
McCoy appeared visibly frustrated after the game when he failed to make Kelly pay for shipping him to Buffalo. He had a respectable overall outing with 74 rushing yards and 35 receiving yards, but he never found the end zone, and, more importantly, his team lost.
Now, McCoy’s old team is tied with Washington atop the NFC East, while his new team is on the outside looking in at a potential AFC playoff spot.
