The final round of the shootout varied from the first two rounds. On Sunday, the third round was played under the better ball format, where each golfer plays every hole using his own ball. The team then uses the golfer's score that was better.
The Franklin Templeton Shootout describes the first two rounds:
"First Round, Scramble - Each player hits a drive on every hole and the best drive is selected. Each player then plays a second shot from the spot where the selected drive lays, and the best second shot is selected. This process is repeated until the hole is completed.
Second Round, Modified Alternate Shot - Each player hits a drive on every hole and one drive is selected. The player whose drive is NOT selected hits the second shot, and they alternate shots until the ball is holed.
"
Holding a one-stroke lead entering the final hole of the day, Snedeker iced things for the winning team with a birdie.
The PGA Tour shows his winning put:
Dufner certainly helped the cause, providing one of the shots of the day on the seventh hole:
Through 17 holes, second-place team Matt Kuchar and Harris English were tied with Snedeker and Dufner at 28-under. But they could only par their final hole while the opposing pair birdied their last two.
Snedeker and Dufner started the day one stroke behind Round 2 leaders Daniel Berger and Charley Hoffman, who shot a seven-under to finish third overall.
Snedeker spoke with GolfChannel.com's Will Gray after the win: "I just think we're a great partnership. When one of us was out of a hole, the other seemed to make a birdie or a putt or a chip and got us right back in it. It worked out great, kind of one of those perfect weeks."
This is the first time the duo has ever won the Franklin Templeton shootout as they put together the most consistent rounds of the tournament, going 11-under in Round 1, eight-under in Round 2 and 11-under on Saturday.
This is Snedeker's second win in 2015 having won the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. For Dufner, it's his first win since the 2013 PGA Championship.
