Saturday Recap
A ruthless performance from Thomas Enqvist gave the Warriors the lead in the opening set of their clash with the Slammers, as he broke Carlos Moya twice on the way to a 6-2 victory.
The Slammers hit back through Dustin Brown and Karolina Pliskova in a hard-fought contest with Leander Paes and Kirsten Flipkens that produced 10 break-point opportunities—the former pairing converted two to the latter's one and thereby took the set.
After three breaks in the first three games, Belinda Bencic was able to pull her team in front as she took on Flipkens in the women's singles, per IPTL:
Bencic went on to claim the set 6-1, before the Warriors came back again through Paes and Philipp Kohlschreiber in the men's doubles.
With the Slammers one point ahead going into the final set, Kohlschreiber needed to beat Nick Kyrgios by two clear games to win the match.
The German put in a valiant effort, but he was ultimately pipped to the post by Kyrgios and the Slammers won by two games:
The Aces took a commanding lead over the Royals in the second match, with Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza triumphing 6-4 over Daniel Nestor and Kristina Mladenovic, before Agnieszka Radwanska ruthlessly put Mladenovic to the sword, taking three out of three break opportunities and claiming a 6-1 victory.
Next up was Fabrice Santoro and Goran Ivanisevic in the men's legends, and the Croatian looked to have earned the Royals' first set of the match as he took a 5-3 lead. The Frenchman roared back into contention, though, and ultimately took the set on a tiebreaker.
To the delight of the crowd, Nadal and Federer lined up against each other in the men's doubles—the former with Bopanna, the latter with Marin Cilic. Both received a warm reception from the fans:
It was Nadal and Bopanna who emerged victorious in that contest despite their opponents saving six break points.
Nadal and Federer did not disappoint when they faced each other in the men's singles. The pair exchanged two breaks apiece in a thrilling contest, with the Spaniard earning seven opportunities to break overall and the Swiss star five.
Federer's second break came with Nadal serving for the set at 5-4 to force a tiebreaker, but nevertheless, Nadal came out on top in a tense finale.
