Daily Fantasy Football December 12: DFS Stock Up, Stock Down
We've reached the final hours before Week 14 of the daily fantasy football season kicks off, and a few factors are affecting lineups in the closing moments.
Along with the basics—recent trends and performance as well as upcoming matchups—updated injury reports have a significant impact on which players to target or avoid.
Use the following information to help place the finishing touches on your winning lineups on DraftKings.
Stock Up: Blake Bortles, Jacksonville Jaguars
1 of 6
Ben Roethlisberger torched the Indianapolis Colts secondary for 364 yards, four touchdowns and zero interceptions in Week 13. Blake Bortles has the weapons to match that number.
The Jacksonsville Jaguars boast rising stars at receiver in Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns, while tight end Julius Thomas has finally found his 2015 stride.
Robinson caught three touchdowns in Week 13, and Hurns is listed as probable for Sunday, per Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Union. Thomas has reached the end zone in three straight games.
Bortles, who costs a reasonable $6,000, should safely reach 20 points with a ceiling near 30.
Stock Down: Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers
2 of 6
Believe it or not, miracles aren't sustainable.
Aaron Rodgers connected with Richard Rodgers for perhaps the most improbable game-winning touchdown of the year to lift the Green Bay Packers over the Detroit Lions. The quarterback finished with 26.62 fantasy points.
But let's eliminate that spectacular touchdown. Rodgers would've failed to reach the 20-point barrier for the third straight week.
Green Bay's receivers are struggling to create space, and drops have plagued the unit, too. Though the Dallas Cowboys aren't a great team overall, their pass defense is actually third-best in fantasy.
The Packers want no one other than Rodgers behind center, but DFS players shouldn't want the $7,000 gunslinger in a lineup.
Stock Up: Danny Woodhead, San Diego Chargers
3 of 6
This was supposed to be the week to officially quit holding out hope for Danny Woodhead. However, injuries have placed the San Diego Chargers running back in the picture.
San Diego's healthy receivers for Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs include Malcom Floyd, Javontee Herndon, Vincent Brown and Tyrell Williams. Yikes.
Considering the lack of depth, it's difficult to ignore Woodhead. He only managed 2.6 DFS points opposite Kansas City three weeks ago, but at $4,400, Woodhead is a low-priced option that could reach 20 points purely because of his points-per-reception upside.
Philip Rivers has to throw somewhere, so it could be worth tossing Woodhead into a couple of lineups.
Stock Down: DeMarco Murray, Philadelphia Eagles
4 of 6
If DeMarco Murray isn't out of your daily fantasy lineup cross hairs already, consider this an urgent plea: Leave him alone.
The Philadelphia Eagles have steadily dropped Murray's involvement in the rotation, and the team listed Ryan Mathews as probable. That's good news for Philly but bad for Murray.
Mathews scored a touchdown in four of his five appearances before the concussion. Darren Sproles has assembled a couple of productive outings recently. Kenjon Barner has earned some snaps.
Don't put any stock into a $5,000 running back who isn't even a clear-cut starter.
Stock Up: Mike Evans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
5 of 6
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wideout Mike Evans ($7,200) is set to challenge Brandon Browner, who has been a significant waste of money. Unfortunately for New Orleans Saints fans, the important people aren't willing to admit it.
After Browner gave up touchdowns to Devin Funchess and Ted Ginn Jr., per Katherine Terrell of the Times-Picayune, Saints coach Sean Payton didn't have much patience with the media when asking about Browner:
"Go write a blog about it. Browner played well. These guys played hard. It's gonna be a competitive game, and [defensive coordinator] Dennis [Allen] and he have a great relationship the same way. So, next question.
"
Welcome to the blog, coach.
Evans has tallied at least one red-zone target in every appearance since Week 2 and scored in two of Tampa's last three games. He should see plenty of Browner, which means plenty of points.
Stock Down: Dorial Green-Beckham, Tennessee Titans
6 of 6
Dorial Green-Beckham's role isn't the issue. In fact, Week 14 might end up being the rookie's biggest snap count of the season.
Nevertheless, the $3,700 Titans wideout will likely be tested all day long by one of the best.
According to Colin Stephenson of Newsday, New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis practiced fully Friday. Although he must receive official clearance from doctors, Revis "should play," per ESPN.com's Rich Cimini.
Green-Beckham should garner about eight targets, but turning one into a touchdown will be a struggle.
