Chelsea Transfer News: Latest on Alexandre Pato and Amadou Diawara Rumours

Rob BlanchetteDec 11, 2015

Brazilian ace Alexandre Pato could be on his way to the Premier League, after the attacker was spotted at Stamford Bridge to see Chelsea play in the Champions League.

The Telegraph confirmed the former AC Milan talent was in attendance as the Blues defeated Porto, 2-0, in European competition, after Pato was linked with a £16 million transfer away from Corinthians. The striker has recently found his scoring touch on loan at Sao Paulo and has been offered to a number of clubs in England.

Tom Collomosse of the London Evening Standard reported Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have both been touted as potential buyers for Pato, but his appearance at the Bridge will have tongues wagging.

A fan took a picture with Pato, proving he was at the match on Wednesday night:

Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb (h/t Colin Harvey of the Daily Star) previously reported Pato would join Liverpool in January for £14.3 million. But Corinthians president Roberto de Andrade refuted the claims, per Brazilian outlet SporTV (h/t ESPN FC): "Corinthians have received nothing. Nothing concrete has arrived."

Pato confirmed he would look favourably on a move back to Europe, and he proclaimed he will depart Sao Paulo in the near future, per Uche Amako of the Daily Express:

"

I will not stay in Sao Paulo next year. I watched an interview with [interim Sao Paulo president] Leco and he said it is very difficult to sign me.

I want to help Sao Paulo in this final stretch, these five very important games, because I want to put the team into the Copa Libertadores.

I see no problem. I'm a professional and I have to always do my job.

I want to devote my best to them and go on vacation with a feeling of accomplishment.

"

Chelsea have struggled to be creative this year, and Pato could be viewed as a quick fix to this problem.

However, his last stint in European football proved he was far from the elite talent many thought he would develop into. So it would take a leap of faith for coach Jose Mourinho to believe Pato is the answer to his recent nightmare.

Here is a video of the player's recent feats for his loan club:

The Special One has also been linked with a move for talented Bologna midfielder Amadou Diawara.

Italian publication Corriere di Bologna (h/t the Telegraphclaimed Chelsea will make a £14.5 million offer for the teenager, who has shone in Serie A for his club this year.

Manchester City are also reportedly interested in buying the 18-year-old, but the Italian team hope to tie the Guinea player down to a new deal, per the Telegraph.

Pato was a burgeoning talent when he arrived on the scene for Milan, but his quality on the pitch never matched his reputation.

He slowly but surely fell out of the international scene for Brazil and despite his recent renaissance, would be a risky purchase at the touted price.

Chelsea desperately need to add world-class talent to their ranks, rather than journeymen, or the club could hugely fall behind the likes of the their rivals in London and Manchester.

Mourinho's future will rest on the individuals he can attract to Chelsea in January, and it is unlikely Pato would drag the Blues into the top half of the league table.
