Bayley entered Wednesday's match at a size and strength disadvantage, but she still managed to defeat Nia Jax and retain her NXT Women's Championship at NXT TakeOver: London.

Jax is still fairly new to NXT programming, and it didn't take The Rock's cousin long to make a major impact. She dominated every opponent en route to TakeOver and forced her way into a title match against Bayley.

Despite the obvious challenge that Jax presented, Bayley didn't hesitate to take her on in only her fourth televised title defense since winning the Women's Championship from Sasha Banks at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn:

After retaining her title in matches against Alexa Bliss and Eva Marie, Bayley was on quite a roll, but Jax attempted to hit her with a reality check.

During the go-home show prior to NXT TakeOver: London, Jax made it clear to Bayley that she believed she would leave England as the new NXT Women's champion:

"I've been destined for greatness since DAY ONE! And you're looking at the next NXT Women's Champion!" - @NiaJaxWWE https://t.co/WGUYZWpZ4h

While there is no denying Jax's physicality and bloodlines, Bayley has been proving herself at the NXT level for quite some time.

She had to go through former NXT Women's champion Charlotte in order to get a shot at Sasha the night before SummerSlam.

Bayley made the most of her opportunity in one of 2015's best wrestling matches, and she followed that up with another great performance against Banks at NXT TakeOver: Respect in a 30-minute Iron Man match that saw her retain.

Despite all of Bayley's accomplishments and the momentum she gained, it can be argued she was an underdog heading into TakeOver: London.

That was certainly the case from a storyline perspective and perhaps even in reality. Faces of Bayley's ilk are generally at their best when they are chasing the title, so it would have been easy for the NXT creative team to put her back in that position.

Rather than going that route, though, Bayley was given another big victory, which provides her with even more credibility as she moves forward with the title in tow.

Another match against Nia is a very real possibility for Bayley, although the likes of Emma, Dana Brooke and Asuka could be in line for a crack at the title in the near future.

Great women's wrestling has been one of the true hallmarks of NXT and a big reason why the brand has become so popular.

NXT TakeOver: London was another example of that as both Bayley and Jax contributed to a match that told a compelling story.
