Red Sox CF Mookie Betts Makes World Series of Bowling Debut, Tops out at 249

Kyle NewportMay 31, 2018

The Boston Red Sox may not have made it to the Fall Classic this season, but Mookie Betts was able to compete in a World Series event in 2015—a World Series of Bowling event, to be more specific.

Betts—who, according to Pat Bradley of NESN.com, has four perfect games to his name—made his professional bowling debut Tuesday at the Rolltech PBA World Championship in Reno, Nevada.

Although he didn't add to his perfect-game total, the 23-year-old outfielder made a good first impression.

Betts started strong by bowling a 224 in his first game. It didn't take him long to really get in a groove:

He also had a stretch in which he notched six straight strikes, with the fifth one below:

That hot streak led to quite a final score:

Not too shabby.

According to Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald, Betts topped out at 249 and bottomed out at 140. That wide range led to a nine-game average of 196, putting him 212th out of 244 bowlers.

Betts has some work to do if he wants to advance to the next round, but he has at least put together a solid showing early on. It's rare for an athlete to come in and dominate his sport from the start.

However, as long as he continues to put in the work, he will become more consistent and possibly challenge the better bowlers.

Oh yeah, Betts is also a pretty good baseball player. The Red Sox outfielder finished 19th in voting for the American League Most Valuable Player Award in 2015, his first full year in the majors.
