NFL Power Rankings Week 14: Latest 2015 Standings and Reaction for All 32 Teams

Mike NorrisDec 8, 2015

The 2015 NFL season certainly hasn't been a banner one with teams at .500 or worse leading multiple divisions, but there are a handful of teams that are consistently in the top 10 in terms of power rankings.

Cam Newton and the 12-0 Carolina Panthers are everyone's No. 1 team, but the Cincinnati Bengals, Denver Broncos, Arizona Cardinals and New England Patriots aren't far behind at 10-2.

Of course, the Bengals and the Broncos are trending up, while the Patriots find themselves as losers of two straight.

Let's take a look at the current standings and power rankings heading into Week 14:

Denver Broncos10-2Arizona Cardinals10-2
Kansas City Chiefs7-5Seattle Seahawks7-5
Oakland Raiders5-7St. Louis Rams4-8
San Diego Chargers3-9San Francsico 49ers4-8

An interesting trend unfolding in the four divisions with 10-2 teams is the fact that all the second-place teams are 7-5.

Only three divisions remain tight, with the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings tied at 8-4.

The other two are rather interesting.

The Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts are tied atop the AFC South at 6-6. If that wasn't bad enough, Washington, the New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles are all 5-7, with last-place Dallas just one game out at 4-8.

NFL Network analyst David Carr had a hot take over the weekend when Washington led the East at 5-6 before losing to Dallas on Monday Night Football:

It's a novel concept, but one that won't be happening anytime soon.

It's not easy to evaluate the league from top to bottom considering the mediocrity that follows after the top-tier teams.

The Panthers may or may not be the best team in the league, but they've won every game, while every other team has at least two losses. Looking at the Panthers' final four games, the 1972 Miami Dolphins should be nervous:

Week 14vs. Atlanta Falcons6-6N/A
Week 15@ New York Giants5-7N/A
Week 16@ Atlanta Falcons6-6N/A
Week 17Tampa Bay Buccaneers6-6Week 4: Won 37-23

Of course, nearly any NFL team can beat another, but Carolina should be favored in all four games. The Falcons have lost six of seven, and the Giants have dropped three in a row.

The Buccaneers pose the biggest threat to this point. It could be interesting if the game only matters to the Panthers for a chance at 16-0, but the Bucs need a win for a playoff berth.

If the Panthers don't get the single-season record, they can hang their hat on a record they did break with a Week 13 win over the Saints, per SportsCenter:

The Bengals, Patriots, Cardinals, Broncos or another team may end up winning the Super Bowl, but for now, the Panthers have earned the right to be sitting atop any power rankings.
