Odds Analysis
Seattle Seahawks (9-1)
Here come the Seattle Seahawks.
Hopefully, bettors got in on the action with Russell Wilson's team well before this week, because Las Vegas seemed to have some serious doubts after Seattle stumbled to a 2-4 start.
Seattle sits at 7-5 now and second in the NFC West behind the 10-2 Arizona Cardinals. The team has won three in a row, with a 39-30 escape from the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 12 only overshadowed by this past week's 38-7 thumping of the Minnesota Vikings on the road.
Minnesota looked like a tough test for the Seahawks. Instead, Wilson threw for three scores and added another on the ground, while Thomas Rawls ran for 101 yards and a score.
The team added some context to the run by focusing on Wilson, the catalyst:
Seattle now sits in the driver's seat for the postseason, seeing as Minnesota represented maybe the biggest threat to a wild-card spot. It helps that the team finishes with games against hopeless Cleveland and Baltimore clubs before rematches with St. Louis and Arizona, two teams they lost to earlier in the season by seven points or less.
It seems every year the Seahawks turn it on late. If bettors haven't already, it's time to jump on board.
Pittsburgh Steelers (9-1)
The Steelers might have lost the aforementioned game to the Seahawks, but Ben Roethlisberger and Co. might just be the best team in the AFC right now.
At the least, they're the team nobody wants to see in the postseason.
Despite the absence of Le'Veon Bell, Pittsburgh has won three of its last four to reach 7-5, scoring 30 or more points over those four games, the latest a 45-10 whipping of the Indianapolis Colts.
While he's had trouble staying healthy, Big Ben has 10 touchdowns to four interceptions over his last four times out, covering for a defense that has struggled at times to stop opposing aerial attacks.
Pittsburgh won't catch the 10-win Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC North but does have a matching record or better than each of the wild-card hopefuls in the conference. Big Ben and the Steelers also get cupcakes against Baltimore and Cleveland before the end of the season, though showdowns with Cincinnati and Denver will dictate if the team can get back into the playoffs.
Regardless, Pittsburgh looks like a good payout. Like the Seahawks, the Steelers always seem to amp up their play when it matters.
Kansas City Chiefs (20-1)
Don't look now, but one of the best bets around might be the Kansas City Chiefs.
At 7-5, the Chiefs might not be able to catch the 10-win Denver Broncos in the AFC West, but there might not be a hotter team around right now, considering they have rattled off six wins in a row.
In fact, it's almost as if the Chiefs are back from the dead after losing five in a row. As ESPN pointed out, these rolling Chiefs now stand in historic territory for the turnaround:
Impressive, right? What the diagram doesn't show is that the streak started with a win against fellow wild-card contender Pittsburgh and includes a victory against Denver to split the season series and, most recently, a 34-20 dismissal of the Oakland Raiders.
In that game, quarterback Alex Smith tossed two scores and the defense intercepted three passes to post a 20-point fourth quarter en route to the road win.
"We knew we dug ourselves in a hole in the beginning of the year, but we're been battling back every week— just working hard and believing in each other and coming out with victories," linebacker Josh Mauga said after the win, according to ESPN.com.
Guess what? Kansas City also gets shots at Baltimore and Cleveland before season's end. Also in there is a date with San Diego, a team the Chiefs already beat, 33-3, and another game against Oakland.
This is the best price around for bettors. Don't expect it to last.
