Dodgers Reportedly Sign Kazmir

Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reported the Dodgers have signed Kazmir to a three-year deal. Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reported the deal is for $48 million with an opt-out option after the first year.

Kazmir Weighing Multiple Offers

Saturday, Dec. 19

Heyman reported Kazmir is currently deciding between several offers:

"

Ex-A's star Kazmir is said to have multiple three-year offers, probably in the $12-13-million range, with the A's, Royals and Orioles among interested teams (plus the Dodgers, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports).

Kazmir Adds Valuable Rotation Depth

Kazmir rejuvenated his career with the Cleveland Indians in 2013 and continued that improvement with the Athletics. Kazmir's numbers dropped a bit after his trade to the Houston Astros, though. In 13 starts for Houston, he went 2-6 with a 4.17 ERA and 5.19 FIP, per Baseball-Reference.com.

Kazmir is a great addition for the Dodgers after missing out on re-signing Zach Greinke and Johnny Cueto. His 5.18 ERA in nine postseason appearances is a bit of a concern, though, especially for a franchise that has disappointed in the playoffs in the last three seasons.

Kazmir will join Clayton Kershaw to give the Dodgers a formidable southpaw duo at the top of the rotation, and Los Angeles could very well have five left-handers fill out the rest of the staff with Alex Wood, Brett Anderson and Hyun-jin Ryu all contenders to start.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale believes the Dodgers will look to add another starting pitcher, so manager Dave Roberts could have another option or two.

Whether or not Los Angeles is done improving its pitching depth, Kazmir was a necessary acquisition in order to put the team in a position to contend for the pennant in 2016.
