NFL Scores Week 13: Top Fantasy Stars, Results and Playoff Picture

Nate LoopDec 6, 2015

Not even the most ardent of Jacksonville or Tennessee supporters could've guessed the matchup between those two AFC bottom-feeders would've been the most entertaining early-Sunday game in Week 13.

The Titans won a thriller, 42-39, behind a superlative performance from rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota. The victory snapped the Titans' dubious 11-game home losing streak, bringing some semblance of relief to fans who have suffered through a couple of very trying seasons.

There were a number of other nail-biters to behold in this wild week of action, one that was pivotal for the glut of teams in either conference's Wild-Card chase. Fantasy football owners also saw some gaudy point totals from a few players, just in time for the fantasy-playoff push.

Here are the Week 13 scores, top fantasy players and updated playoff picture. Fantasy leaders are based on the ESPN.com leaderboard, with precedence given to wide receivers, tight ends and running backs over quarterbacks when point totals are close.

Top Fantasy Stars from Early-Sunday Games

Quarterback: Marcus Mariota, Tennessee

Naturally, Sunday's highest-scoring game featured the top overall fantasy effort. Mariota tossed three touchdowns and ran for another, a mad 87-yard dash in the fourth quarter that gave the Titans a lead they would not relinquish. Here's the scoring sprint, per the NFL

According to ESPN Stats & Info, it was the longest run in the NFL this year. TitansOnline.com's Jim Wyatt noted Mariota's 118 rushing yards were the most for a Titans player in quite some time:

His halftime stats were good enough to have Fox Sports' Clay Travis talking about the Rookie of the Year award as a foregone conclusion:

Early worries about Mariota's transition from a spread offense to a pro-style look have looked silly for several weeks now. The Oregon product has proven this season he's capable of throwing sharp, accurate passes on the dropback. While his deep ball still needs plenty of work, Mariota clearly has the tools to become a top-tier NFL quarterback.

Wide Receiver: Allen Robinson, Jacksonville

Same game as Mariota, but different team. Jacksonville's Allen Robinson was the top receiver in this high-scoring affair, torching Tennessee time and time again in a stellar afternoon of play.

The second-year man out of Penn State finished with 10 receptions for 153 yards on a staggering 15 targets. Three of those catches went for touchdowns. Bleacher Report editor Ian Kenyon named him as a future leader at the position:

NumberFire's J.J. Zachariason is ready to name his kid after the standout wideout:

Robinson topped the 1,000-yard mark for the season in the contest, becoming the first Jaguar to hit the milestone since prototypical possession receiver Jimmy Smith did it in 2005, per ProFootballTalk's Michael David Smith.

In anticipation of breaking the record—he came into the game with 927 receiving yards—Robinson made a point to put team goals and accomplishments ahead of his personal ones.

"It’s an accomplishment, but I’m not really too big on individual things," Robinson said, per ESPN.com. "The better we do as an offense, the individual goals, they’re going to be there. But I think our main focus as a whole offense is to do well and be a cohesive unit."

Blake Bortles tossed five touchdowns in the game. He's benefited greatly from a young, talented corps of wideouts headlined by Robinson and Allen Hurns. Tight end Julius Thomas has also been a great boost to the offense. If the Jags can sort out their issues on defense, they could be a dangerous team next season in a good-but-not-great AFC South.

Running Back: Javorius Allen, Baltimore

The Ravens couldn't pick up the win on Sunday, but they have to feel better about their long-term prospects at running back after Javorius "Buck" Allen put in another stellar performance starting in place of the injured Justin Forsett.

Allen tallied a modest 63 rushing yards but did most of his damage in the passing game, where he racked up 12 receptions for 107 yards and a touchdown. NFL Network's James Koh liked what he saw on the 41-yard score, which started off as a simple screen pass:

Allen still leaves something to be desired running between the tackles, but his ability to make plays in the receiving game bodes well for a Ravens team suffering from a lack of talent in the wide-receiver corps.
