Gronkowski Officially Out
Friday, Nov. 4
On Friday, ESPN's Field Yates reported that Gronkowski will be out for Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Gronkowski picked up the injury during the Patriots' Week 12 loss to the Denver Broncos when he was hit on the right knee with less than three minutes to go in the fourth quarter and had to be carted off the field.
According to a joint statement from the Patriots and the Gronkowski family, via NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, the injury was a "bone bruise/sprain," and he will be evaluated on a week-to-week basis.
Gronkowski issued this message through Bleacher Report's Uninterrupted:
This season, Gronkowski has led the Patriots with 931 receiving yards and nine touchdowns as he continues to show why he is the best tight end in the league.
Now the Patriots are facing another loss to their pass-catching arsenal after top wide receiver Julian Edelman broke his foot and running back Dion Lewis, who was often used as a receiver out of the backfield, tore his ACL.
The Patriots will probably look to backup tight end Scott Chandler to start at tight end in the meantime. Chandler has 19 receptions for 198 yards this season—not nearly anything like Gronkowski, but with a quarterback like Brady, don't expect the Patriots' passing game to dip much.
