Barcelona Transfer News: Latest Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez Rumours

Christopher SimpsonDec 4, 2015

Manchester United are reportedly hoping to land Barcelona's star trio of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez—or one of them, at least—in a sensational swoop by capitalising on the Catalan giants' financial struggles.

According to the Sun (h/t the Telegraph) United are readying themselves to make a "staggering £350 million raid" for Messi and Neymar, while manager Louis van Gaal would weigh up a move for Suarez "if the price is right."

Pete Jenson of the MailOnline reports on Barcelona's difficulties in keeping hold of their top stars due to their unsustainable wage bill, among other revenue problems. In stark contrast, United are in rude financial health and are targeting a revenue of £500 million for the year, so if any club could afford one of the trio it's them.

Messi and Neymar have been in typically sublime form this year, per Squawka Football:

Per the Guardian's Sid Lowe, they—along with Luis Suarez—also work incredibly well together:

As Jenson reports, Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu remains firm that the pair won't be sold at any cost. However, according to the Telegraph's report, former president Joan Laporta isn't as confident when it comes to the Brazilian.

"For Neymar, it’s different," he said. "The economic situation of the club is not good. The current president must sell players or assets to balance the books."

United have struggled up front this season, having mustered just 20 goals in 14 Premier League games, and the addition of a quick, skilful and clinical marquee forward is certainly needed.

In that regard, they can find no better than one of Barca's front three. Suarez has also been in stunning form this year, per Squawka Football:

Spanish football expert Sergi Dominguez highlights what makes the Uruguayan so good, and hailed his performances over the calendar year:

As incredible a player as he is, Suarez isn't likely to be welcomed to Old Trafford with open arms given his history with arch-rivals Liverpool and the unsavoury incident in which he was found guilty of racially abusing former United player Patrice Evra.

Neymar and Messi would of course be a different story, and like any other team in the world United would jump at the chance to land either if given the opportunity.

The pair are the two Barca are most determined to keep, though, so even if the club's financial position worsens, they would likely make cuts or sell their other stars before they part with them.

Until Barcelona get their house in order these rumours will continue to surround their biggest players, but with the club adamant they'll keep their star duo and the pair sharing an undeniable love for the club, a move away for either still isn't particularly likely.

However, the fact that it's no longer inconceivable is a worrying indicator as to Barca's current off-field situation.
