Start 'Em, Sit 'Em Week 13: Predictions and Ranking Top Fantasy Locks and Flops

Steve SilvermanDec 4, 2015

It is must-win time for the New York Giants.

After blowing an opportunity to take a two-game lead in the NFC East last week when they dropped a 20-14 decision on the road against the Washington Redskins, the Giants find themselves with a 5-6 record. The Redskins technically have the lead in the standings because they have a better divisional record than the Giants.

New York played a disinterested game well into the third quarter before mounting a rally that got them within six points. However, coming close is not what head coach Tom Coughlin was looking for, and he blistered his team after the game.

The Giants and quarterback Eli Manning have another chance this week when they meet the Jets in the battle for MetLife Stadium. This is not going to be an easy game for the Giants, because the Jets have a winning record, and they will be fighting for a playoff spot themselves. However, the Giants are going to leave it all on the field, and that means their offense should be percolating.

Manning has had an excellent season, and we believe he will come out with one of his strongest games of the year. As dull and disinterested as the Giants offense was in Week 12, we think it will be just the opposite in this game.

Manning has thrown for 3,021 yards and completed 63.0 percent of his passes. He also has a 23-9 TD-to-interception ratio. The key to Manning's success is his 1-2 combination at the wide receiver position with Odell Beckham Jr. (72-1,005-9) and Rueben Randle (40-511-4).

Look for Manning to throw for 315 yards and three TDs against the Jets, who are unlikely to have cornerback Darrelle Revis (concussion) in the lineup, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.

RB C.J. Anderson, Denver Broncos

C.J. Anderson was the man on the spot for the Denver Broncos in Week 12 against the New England Patriots.

The Broncos were not about to ask inexperienced quarterback Brock Osweiler to put the ball in the air 40 times or more against the previously undefeated Patriots in snowy weather. Instead, the Broncos wanted their running game to assert itself.

Anderson answered the bell for head coach Gary Kubiak, carrying the ball 15 times for 113 yards and two touchdowns. His 48-yard TD  scamper in overtime gave the Broncos the victory they so desperately wanted.

Anderson shares time at the running back slot with Ronnie Hillman, and Anderson regularly is the No. 2 back in the rotation. That will be the case this week when the Broncos play at San Diego.

But Anderson is the better running back, and he will get at least 15 more carries this week. Anderson should prosper against San Diego's yielding run defense. The Chargers rank 25th in rushing yards allowed, and they will get manhandled in the second half.

Anderson should be a must-start even though he is coming off the bench.

SANTA CLARA, CA - NOVEMBER 29: Inside linebacker NaVorro Bowman #53 and middle linebacker Gerald Hodges #51 of the San Francisco 49ers breaks up a pass intended for wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald #11 of the Arizona Cardinals during an NFL football game a

WR Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals have gotten everything they could have hoped for out of Larry Fitzgerald to this point in the season.

Fitzgerald has been healthy all season, and he has been the favorite target of quarterback Carson Palmer. The Arizona quarterback has come his way 111 times this season, and Fitzgerald has caught 83 of those passes. No other Cardinal receiver has been targeted more than 64 times this season.

There are no signs of Fitzgerald slowing down. He has caught 83-992-7 this season, and he has caught 37 passes in the last four games.

While Fitzgerald has been slowed this week with an ankle issue, we expect him to make impact plays against the St. Louis Rams on Sunday.

Look for Fitzgerald to catch at least eight passes for 100 yards with a touchdown. Mr. Consistency strikes again.

TE Greg Olsen, Carolina Panthers

Whether or not the Carolina Panthers can go undefeated through the last five games of the season and finish the year with a 16-0 record is a matter of debate at this point.

However, it would be a real shocker if that first loss came at the hands of the struggling New Orleans Saints this week.

The Saints are just too generous with the 31st-ranked defense in the league and the 29th-ranked pass defense.

Cam Newton should be jumping at the chance to shred that defense, and so should tight end Greg Olsen.

Olsen has been targeted 83 times this season, and he has caught 53-788-6. He is clearly Carolina's best receiver. Olsen caught eight passes for 134 yards and two scores in the Panthers' first meeting with the Saints, and he should torment them again on Sunday.

Fantasy Flops

QB Jameis Winston, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

After a slow start, Jameis Winston started picking up the Tampa Bay offense and helping Lovie Smith's team play respectable football.

He has made clear progress this year, but he has much more to go before he becomes a star NFL quarterback. That's what the Bucs need the No. 1 draft pick in last April's draft to become.

Winston has completed 203-of-350 passes for 2,650 yards with 16 TDs and 10 interceptions this season. Winston threw for 246 yards and five TDs in a Week 11 triumph at Philadelphia, but the rookie quarterback fell on hard times in Week 12. He threw for 245 yards against the Colts, but he threw just one TD, and he had an interception.

The Bucs face a desperate Atlanta Falcons team Sunday. Look for Atlanta head coach Dan Quinn to dial up several blitzes that Winston has not seen yet. Winston will throw for 175 yards and just one TD pass here.

Keep him on your fantasy bench.

RB Latavius Murray, Oakland Raiders

Latavius Murray had his coming-out party against the Kansas City Chiefs last season. Murray carried the ball four times for 112 yards with two touchdowns against the Chiefs in Week 11, and that game demonstrated Murray's speed and power.

Murray is a key part of the Raiders offense this year, and he has gained 765 yards and scored four touchdowns this year.

Murray is likely to find it much more difficult to run against the Chiefs this year. Kansas City has won five games in a row, and the Chiefs' much-improved defense ranks 10th overall and eighth against the run.

Middle linebacker Derrick Johnson is not going to let Murray break free for any big runs in this game. Look for the Chiefs to hold Murray to 55 yards and keep him out of the end zone.

WR Stefon Diggs, Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings have moved to the top of the NFC North, and they can strengthen their position if they can beat the Seattle Seahawks at home.

The Vikings have shown quite a bit of improvement on both sides of the ball, and rookie wideout Stefon Diggs has given the Minnesota passing game quite a bit of flash, as he has caught a team-best 40-604-2. Diggs and quarterback Teddy Bridgewater appear to be on the same page, and their chemistry should get better in the years to come.

But don't expect much from Diggs against the Seahawks, who are fighting to get back to the playoffs. They moved into the No. 6 spot when they beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 12.

The Seahawks have the No. 4 defense in the league, and while they have shown some fourth-quarter weakness this year and are not as strong as they were in 2013 or 2014, they are good enough to shut down a rookie wideout.

Diggs will be held to less than 50 receiving yards, and he won't get into the end zone.
