Allsports Commentary: Ottawa Senators lucky San Jose desperate too.
So if you have been following hockey sports news or sports on the web, you know the Senators were finally able to trade disgruntled winger Dany Heatley to the San Jose Sharks. It was a good thing for the Senators that the Sharks were desperate to make changes in their lineup because they seemed to be the only team interested in Heatley for the money he was being paid.
Heatley is a good hockey player and can find the net but teams were reluctant to pay 7.5 million a year for a guy with his reputation of being a whiner. The deal seems to work for both teams. The Senators got right-winger Jonathan Cheechoo, once a 56-goal scorer, and left-winger Milan Michalek for sending Heatley to the west coast. The Senators got rid of a guy that did not want to be there and also got rid of a huge contract. Meanwhile the Sharks are hoping they have found the trigger man to benefit from Joe Thornton’s passes.

The trade may work out for all involved because Cheechoo and Michalek could benefit from a change in local too. Cheechoo had a brutal season last year and may get back on track for the east division Senators. The Sharks needed a new look too after choking in the playoffs again last year. Can Heatley give the Sharks the edge they need come playoff time? Based on Heatley past allsports does not think so.
