Fantasy Football Rankings: Week 13 Big Board
For many, this is the final week of the fantasy football regular season, so rankings may only matter if you are in dire need of breaking a tie for the final spot in your starting lineup or if you are trying to find a sleeper to put your team over the top. If you’ve already locked up a spot in the playoffs, there’s a good chance you know your optimal lineup.
Those who let New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski carry them for the first 12 weeks of the season are scrambling to replace one of the top fantasy players at any position. Gronkowski has his own tier, so no matter who you plug in to take his spot, you’re looking at a major downgrade.
Losing the top player at an already thin position is an absolute killer this late in the season, especially if you add in the loss of Seattle Seahawks tight end Jimmy Graham (leg) and the fact that Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert left Week 12 with a stinger.
Indications are that Eifert’s neck is OK, per Adam Schefter of ESPN, but it’s another example of how fast fortunes can change and how you must always be ready to pounce for the next-best option on the waiver wire. That might be Gronkowski’s replacement, Scott Chandler, or Minnesota Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph, who’s been coming on strong in recent weeks.
Speaking of injuries, make sure to keep a close eye on the backfields of the Atlanta Falcons and Kansas City Chiefs. Running back Devonta Freeman appears primed to return from his concussion, so that’s a possible boost for the Falcons. The Chiefs continue to get strong play no matter who is at running back, but they hope to get Charcandrick West back from a hamstring injury.
As always, these rankings will be updated throughout the week and right after inactives come down for the early-afternoon games Sunday.

Quarterbacks: Still the One
2 of 7
Better than usual
- Andy Dalton, Cin: Dalton has an excellent chance to build on last week’s solid performance against the St. Louis Rams when he faces the Cleveland Browns in Week 13. In Week 9, he got them for 234 yards and three touchdowns. Over the past four weeks, they’ve allowed the sixth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks.
Worse than usual
- Philip Rivers, SD: Rivers had no problems with the Jacksonville Jaguars last week, but the competition gets stiff when he takes on the Denver Broncos on Sunday. They've allowed an average of about 250 yards and 1.5 touchdowns to quarterbacks in their past four games.
Avoid
- Tyrod Taylor, Buf: Taylor was impressive in Week 12, posting 291 passing yards and three touchdowns against the Chiefs. It won’t be as easy against the steadily improving Houston Texans this week. They’ve held their last four opponents to fewer than 230 yards in each game and have given up a total of one touchdown while racking up five interceptions during that time.
Sleepers
- Jay Cutler, Chi: Cutler and the Chicago Bears ruined Thanksgiving for the Green Bay Packers with an upset victory. With 200 yards and a touchdown, Cutler wasn’t helpful for fantasy owners, though. Expect that to change when the San Francisco 49ers visit Chicago on Sunday. Over the last four weeks, the 49ers have allowed the eighth-most fantasy points to QBs.
- Ryan Fitzpatrick, NYJ: Last week, Fitzpatrick torched the Miami Dolphins for 277 yards and four touchdowns, proving once again that he can be useful in the right matchup. He faces another beatable defense in Week 13 when the New York Jets meet the New York Giants in a battle of MetLife Stadium. Quarterbacks facing the Giants have posted the ninth-most fantasy points over the last month.

Running Backs: Martin Had a Dream
3 of 7
Better than usual
- Javorius Allen, Bal: Allen is the starter in Baltimore, and with 12 carries for 55 yards and four receptions for 29 yards and a touchdown on five targets against the Cleveland Browns in Week 12, he proved capable of handling the lead role. He’ll have a great chance to follow that up against the Dolphins. They’ve allowed the second-most fantasy points to running backs in the past four weeks, including 581 yards and five touchdowns on the ground and 23 receptions.
Worse than usual
- Mark Ingram, NO: For some reason, the New Orleans Saints gave Ingram just 10 carries last week (52 yards), but he made up for it with six receptions for 45 yards. It won’t be easy to match those numbers against the undefeated Carolina Panthers. In the past four weeks, they’ve given up just 121 rushing yards and the third-fewest fantasy points to running backs.
- Latavius Murray, Oak: In the past four games, Murray hasn’t totaled 100 total yards, and he has just one touchdown in his past five games. The Chiefs face Murray in Week 13 and come into the matchup as the sixth-toughest defense against fantasy running backs, including just 178 rushing yards allowed over the past four weeks.
Avoid
- Frank Gore, Ind: Forget the matchup because Gore has been more useless than helpful over the past six weeks or so. His offensive line isn’t helping, and without a lot of production but plenty of carries, it makes sense that head coach Chuck Pagano said Gore was "beat to crap" earlier this week, per Mike Chappell of Fox59/CBS4. That quote should be enough to shy away from Gore, but let’s add a Pittsburgh Steelers defense that’s held running backs to the fourth-fewest fantasy points in the last four weeks.
Sleepers
- David Johnson, Ari: With Chris Johnson (knee) out for the rest of the regular season and Andre Ellington (turf toe) looking more and more like he won’t play in Week 13, the Arizona Cardinals are turning to rookie David Johnson. Head coach Bruce Arians said Johnson is "more than ready" during an interview on SiriusXM NFL Radio. The versatile Johnson faces a St. Louis defense that’s allowed a total of 725 yards to running backs in the last month.

Wide Receivers: Model of Consistency
4 of 7
Better than usual
- T.Y. Hilton/Donte Moncrief, Ind: Both Hilton and Moncrief had strong fantasy performances in last week’s win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They’re looking even better against Pittsburgh this weekend. The Steelers have allowed the most fantasy points to wide receivers in the last four weeks.
Worse than usual
- Stevie Johnson, SD: Johnson has the unenviable task of facing the Broncos on Sunday. Denver has held three of its last five opponents to fewer than 50 yards from wide receivers, including the Patriots last week. Johnson can’t be considered anything more than a WR3.
Avoid
- Stefon Diggs, Min: Over the last four games, Diggs has failed to score at least 13 fantasy points (in PPR), and he has just one touchdown in his last five games. While the Seahawks have shown vulnerabilities against strong passing attacks, the Vikings are far from strong in that category. Expect a frustrating day for Diggs.
Sleepers
- Marvin Jones, Cin: It’s hard to predict when Jones will strike with a strong fantasy performance, but he’s usually worth a shot when the matchup is in his favor, as it is this week against the Browns. Jones has played at least 85 percent of the snaps in four of the last five games and posted five receptions for 78 yards in the Week 9 meeting with the Browns. Consider him a worthy reach for Week 13.

Tight Ends: Last Men Standing
5 of 7
Better than usual
- Julius Thomas, Jac: Thomas is coming off his best game of the season (nine receptions, 116 yards, one touchdown) and has a great chance to keep the momentum going when the Jaguars visit the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. Over the last four weeks, Tennessee has allowed the fifth-most fantasy points to tight ends.
Worse than usual
- Jason Witten, Dal: Witten has been a shaky fantasy player for most of the season, but any hope of him getting back to respectability likely vanished when quarterback Tony Romo went down with yet another collarbone injury. That leaves Witten with backup quarterback Matt Cassel in an average matchup against the Washington Redskins.
Avoid
- Martellus Bennett, Chi: Bennett has had just one useful fantasy performance over the last five weeks and had to sit out Week 12 with a rib injury. While it looks like he’ll have a chance to return against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 13, he’s too risky to play with confidence, especially since the 49ers have been a top-five defense against fantasy tight ends over the last month.
Sleepers
- Scott Chandler, NE: The New England Patriots know they’ll be without Rob Gronkowski (knee) for at least this week and possibly longer, and while there’s no replacing him, it’s not like the team is dangerously thin at tight end. Chandler will step into a bigger role and is coming off a game with five receptions for 58 yards and a touchdown on 11 targets and a season-high 81 percent of the snaps. The Eagles shouldn’t pose much of a problem for New England’s offense, and that includes Chandler.

Defense/Special Teams: The Feast Continues
6 of 7
Best options based on matchups
- Arizona Cardinals (at STL): Considering the Rams have the worst quarterback situation in the league, the Cardinals won’t have to worry much about Sean Mannion, Case Keenum or Nick Foles. St. Louis has allowed opposing fantasy defenses to score the fourth-most points in the last four games.
- Cincinnati Bengals (at Cle): This is a no-brainer, as a great defense takes on a Browns offense that just lost starting quarterback Josh McCown to a broken collarbone. Cleveland has given up the second-most fantasy points to defenses in the last four weeks.
- Carolina Panthers (at NO): The Saints aren’t scaring anyone with their offense, even at home. The top defense of the last month takes on a team giving up the third-most fantasy points to defenses in its last four games.
- New England Patriots (at Phi): It looks like Philadelphia will get quarterback Sam Bradford (head, shoulder) back this week, but does it matter for a team that’s such a mess? The Eagles have given up 14 sacks and the seventh-most fantasy points to defenses in the last month, so it should be a good week if you’re rolling with the Patriots.

Kickers: A Leg Up
7 of 7
Best options widely available on the waiver wire
- Jason Myers, Jac: No one’s been busier than Myers when it comes to field-goal attempts in the last four weeks. He leads all kickers with 14 field goals and 15 attempts during that span, so he’s been active and accurate, which is all you can ask for from a kicker. He’s not a well-known name, so there’s a good chance you can scoop him up before a favorable matchup with the Titans.
