Tom Brady Passes Dan Marino for 3rd on NFL's All-Time Touchdown-Pass List

Timothy RappDec 6, 2015

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady surpassed Dan Marino for third place on the NFL's all-time touchdown-pass list on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, throwing the 421st touchdown pass of his career and his 29th touchdown pass this season.

Bleacher Report congratulated Brady on the achievement:

He passed Marino on a four-yard touchdown to James White in the first quarter.

Only Brett Favre (508) and Peyton Manning (539) have more career touchdown passes, while Brady is also fifth all-time in passing yards behind Manning, Favre, Marino and Drew Brees. Add in the fact that Brady has been voted to 10 Pro Bowls, is a two-time regular-season MVP and a three-time Super Bowl MVP and has led the Pats to four Super Bowl titles and 12 playoff appearances, and his legacy is secure.

What's even more amazing is that Brady has continued to play at an elite level, even at the age of 38, and should have several years of excellent football in front of him. And he continues to produce this season despite dealing with injuries to key playmakers such as Dion Lewis, Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola and, most recently, Rob Gronkowski

He certainly hasn't lost his competitive fire. After tying Marino for third place in last week's loss to the Denver Broncos—New England's first loss of the seasonBrady was far more focused on the game's result.

"It was a very hard loss. I don't think I've ever been so pissed off after a loss," Brady said the next Monday on sports radio WEEI, per Mike Reiss of ESPN.com. "I think everyone felt the same way. Hopefully we can use it as motivation going forward."

That competitive spirit will serve him well going forward. Brady still has a passion for the game, making it feasible that he could play long enough to surpass Favre and even potentially Manning. After the career he's had to this point, few will bet against him.
