Sasha Banks Must Replace Paige in Feud with Divas Champion Charlotte

Tom ClarkNov 28, 2015

Sasha Banks is the most curious case the WWE Divas division has ever known. It has nothing to do with her gimmick or her character, however; it has to do with the fact the company seems to have no desire to do anything for her.

Banks is very talented and more than equipped to handle the spotlight of WWE, yet she continues to be given the scraps instead of eating from the table. But there is a way to rectify the situation, and that is Banks replaces Paige in the feud with Charlotte.

Fans have been debating this problem for several months, but no one seems to be any closer to fully understanding it.

In a division of talent that is either working to get over or is not quite ready for main event stardom, Sasha is the bright spot.  She's ready, and she has been for quite a while, but no one in WWE creative seems to believe that.

The fans do, though, and to watch her keep coming up short on the booking is becoming laughable at best. However, this is not how she's portrayed in NXT.

When it comes to Sasha in Florida, no one is bigger. She is the queen of NXT—the girl who came in with high hopes and big dreams and then made them happen. She has show time about her, is a born entertainer and knows how to give fans what they want.

She's also very good in the ring, and that is what sets her apart from many of her peers.

Sasha set a new standard for every woman in NXT to follow. She was the Shawn Michaels of the Divas—the charismatic showstopper who gave it her all every time she stepped through the ropes. Fans knew what they were getting when she was in a match, and when she began feuding with Charlotte, they got more than they thought possible.

Sasha complemented Charlotte in every way. Each was the perfect opponent for the other. They were the top two women in NXT, and they carried themselves as such.

Their matches were on par with any of their male counterparts and were much better than any Divas matches happening on Raw or SmackDown. Sasha vs. Charlotte was the modern version of Ricky Steamboat vs. Ric Flair.

That kind of attention and that kind of praise would never be given to a pairing unless it was well-deserved. Fans knew both women had the it factor, and they knew Banks was the Diva of the future.

Her matches against Bayley at the last two TakeOver specials were even more proof of that, as their chemistry together was evident. The Boss was in top form in those matches, and though she was unable to win either contest, it made no difference.

The success of both feuds had one common denominator: Banks. The company had definitely made the right move by using her as the next phase of women's wrestling in NXT, and she was more than ready for the challenge.

But since her main-roster debut in July, she's gone nowhere fast. The girl once regarded as perhaps the most talented woman WWE had ever seen has basically just stood still.  WWE obviously does not understand or perhaps does not even recognize the problem.

However, that can surely not be said now.

Fans are over the rivalry between Charlotte and Paige. It was a good angle at first, and it worked for a bit, but it's not working anymore. The heat between the two was forced, and their chemistry is not quite as sharp as it needs to be.

If ever there were a time to let the understudy step in, it's now.

WWE creative must pull the trigger and make this move happen. Banks is the perfect replacement for Paige, and she would more than fill in the gap left behind by the Anti-Diva. Sasha and Charlotte had such a natural rivalry, and if the main roster needs anything right now, it's organic and interesting feuds.

This would finally give Sasha the big opportunity so many fans have been wanting her to have, and it would also put Charlotte's spot as the top Diva in serious jeopardy.

The Divas Championship has had little genuine interest attached to it in recent years, and that is all changing. While that is the case, the time to strike with a motivated and talented woman in the mix is now.

Sasha is ready. All she needs is the chance to prove it.
