WWE SmackDown Spoilers: Complete Results and Analysis for Nov. 26

Erik BeastonNov 24, 2015

The Thanksgiving holiday will bring with it turkey, mashed potatoes and a healthy helping of WWE SmackDown, the weekly Thursday broadcast taped Tuesday night in Indianapolis.

Just days after suffering a crushing loss in the finals of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship Tournament at Survivor Series, Dean Ambrose had the opportunity to earn himself a shot at the intercontinental title as he battled Tyler Breeze and Dolph Ziggler in a Triple Threat No. 1 Contender's match.

Would he defeat his competition, two men he already has recent wins over, and earn a shot at Kevin Owens?

Or would he suffer another disappointing defeat?

Speaking of losers from Sunday's event, United States champion Alberto Del Rio would battle Jack Swagger in a non-title match that reignited their rivalry from two years ago.

The New Day was in action as they battled Lucha Dragons, and The Dudley Boyz squared off with The Wyatt Family's Erick Rowan and Braun Strowman.

With new rivalries taking shape ahead of TLC in three weeks, the fans in Indianapolis got the first sneak peak of what audiences can expect when SmackDown hits the SyFy airwaves.

Now you can too, courtesy of our friends at WrestlingInc.com.

Results

  • Roman Reigns kicked off the show but was interrupted by Sheamus. The two exchanged words before Reigns vowed to take back his title at TLC.
  • The Dudley Boyz defeated Erick Rowan and Braun Strowman by disqualification when Bray Wyatt interfered. Strowman choked out D-Von while Harper and Rowan put Bubba Ray through a table.
  • Paige defeated Becky Lynch with a rollup.
  • The New Day did a Thanksgiving-themed vignette that ended when The Gobbledy Gooker appeared and was revealed to be Xavier Woods.
  • Jack Swagger defeated Alberto Del Rio by disqualification when the U.S. champion used a steel chair at ringside. Swagger fought back, and his rival and Zeb Colter retreated.
  • The Lucha Dragons defeated The New Day in a non-title match when the Gooker interfered. It was revealed to be Jey Uso in the costume.
  • Dean Ambrose defeated Tyler Breeze and Dolph Ziggler to become No. 1 contender to the IC title.

Analysis

At a time when the focus should be on establishing Sheamus as a strong champion, WWE Creative took the opportunity to shine the spotlight on Dean Ambrose and his chase for the Intercontinental Championship, currently held by Kevin Owens.

The decision to book Ambrose to beat Tyler Breeze again is questionable, if only because Prince Pretty should be protected as he continues to find his footing on the main roster. If one look at the current state of the roster is any indication, though, WWE really only has interest in a handful of talent while leaving the rest to wallow in mediocrity, never getting over because they win, then lose, too much.

The only announced match for Thursday's show was Alberto Del Rio vs. Jack Swagger, a feud fans are supposed to buy into immediately, despite the fact Swagger has been an also-ran for nearly a year, completely off of Raw and SmackDown as if he had been abducted by aliens or quietly released without any indication.

A feud between The Dudley Boyz and The Wyatt Family feels flat and most definitely a step down for the latter crop of talent.

The New Day nonsense reads like another prime example of Vince McMahon taking an act that is incredibly over and forcing it into an unfunny situation, thus devaluing it.

With the holidays and some quality NFL shows occupying your time, feel free to skip Thursday's show.

WWE Creative did.
