Matt Hasselbeck, Frank Gore, T.Y. Hilton's Post-Week 11 Fantasy Advice

Matt FitzgeraldNov 22, 2015

The Indianapolis Colts continued to roll with Matt Hasselbeck at quarterback, improving to 3-0 this season with the veteran under center after Sunday's 24-21 road win over the Atlanta Falcons.

Although the bottom-line results are great for the Colts from a team standpoint, fantasy owners should tread with caution after Week 11 when it comes to anyone involved in the Indianapolis offense.

Atlanta wasn't an easy matchup, but the production from running back Frank Gore and typical top receiver T.Y. Hilton did little to inspire optimism for fantasy owners. Read on for advice on Gore, Hilton and Hasselbeck, along with their final stat lines for Week 11.

Matt Hasselbeck

The savvy 40-year-old can indubitably execute an offense, but his limited arm strength and lack of mobility limit his fantasy ceiling.

Hasselbeck hadn't thrown an interception in two prior starts before the Falcons picked him off twice Sunday. He averaged only 6.66 yards per attempt despite completing just under 72 percent of his passes, which isn't particularly encouraging from a roto perspective.

In two-QB formats, it may be worth looking at Hasselbeck if he's facing a favorable matchup. Otherwise, it'd be wisest to stay away from him.

Frank Gore

Ahmad Bradshaw had four receptions to Gore's five on Sunday but also had two receiving touchdowns and was the more effective runner with 32 yards on nine carries.

Since Bradshaw is fresher having joined the Colts later in the 2015 campaign, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him continue producing more than Gore down the stretch. At age 32, Gore has a ton of wear and tear on his body and may well lack explosiveness as the year wears on.

Without Andrew Luck in the lineup and opposing defenses likely to jump all over short passes from Hasselbeck, the Colts will need to run the ball against stuffed boxes to keep defenses honest. They aren't bound to continue winning with Hasselbeck airing it out all day.

Even bearing that in mind, Gore is an RB2 at best and a flier flex option in most fantasy formats without Luck scaring safeties away from coming up to support the run.

T.Y. Hilton

2/42102

Unless he can make something happen after the catch, Hilton is also no longer a WR2 bordering on a WR1.

Luck and Hilton had a rapport and a knack for generating explosive plays. Again, that's simply not what Hasselbeck brings to the table. Longer touchdowns will now come as the result of broken tackles in space rather than deep bombs, and Hilton has been more dangerous on the latter type of pass plays.

Defenses are also keying in on Hilton as the primary option, with coverages rolling to his side of the field or shadowing him even when he's in the slot. Donte Moncrief should be considered Indy's best bet at wideout.

Plus, new offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski has a penchant for pass-catching tight ends. Due to the matchup issues Coby Fleener and Dwayne Allen present to linebackers, expect that duo's targets to go up.
