Javorius Allen's Updated 2015 Fantasy Outlook After Justin Forsett's Injury

Timothy RappNov 22, 2015

The Baltimore Ravens lost starting running back Justin Forsett to a broken arm in the first half of Sunday's game against the St. Louis Rams, the team announced. That meant Javorius Allen had to step into the starting role and will likely be the team's feature back for the foreseeable future.

Allen, a rookie out of USC, had rushed for all of 182 yards coming into Sunday, so it's tough to recommend him too highly for fantasy owners. While he'll be the de facto starter, he's replacing a versatile player in Forsett, who made an impact in the passing game as well as in the run game. Plus, it's hard to imagine the Ravens won't look to bring in a veteran presence and utilize a platoon at the position going forward.

Forsett was having a mediocre season for fantasy owners amid Baltimore's overall struggles. He had registered double-digit fantasy points in ESPN standard-scoring leagues just twice all season and came into Sunday with just 12 total points in his past two games. And Baltimore's 98.1 rushing yards per game coming into the week ranked 23rd in the NFL.

Allen is worth adding this week on waivers, but expecting him to be anything more than a matchup-based flex play is probably wishful thinking. Baltimore's offense simply hasn't been good enough to facilitate big fantasy numbers for the rookie running back.
