Report: Washington Continues to Violate League Policy
Sunday, Nov. 22
According to Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com, Fox Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer reported Sunday that the suspended Washington has continued to have violations since getting suspended despite his status in the NFL's drug program.
Washington's suspension was handed down in May 2014, and he indicated that it was related to marijuana use, per ESPN's Adam Caplan:
Although he applied for reinstatement prior to the 2015 season, it was not granted. The former Pro Bowler pleaded guilty to assaulting his girlfriend last year, but the NFL hasn't said if that situation contributed to his continued suspension.
Per Darin Gantt of Pro Football Talk, Glazer reported there is some concern that Washington may never play in the NFL again.
The former TCU standout last suited up during the 2013 season, but his best year came in 2012, when he racked up 134 tackles, nine sacks and one interception.
Arizona has enjoyed a great deal of success without him, as it made the playoffs last season and currently leads the NFC West.
When asked about Washington's status prior to the 2015 season, Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians was quite dismissive, according to Kent Somers of AZCentral.com:
"I don't lose one minute's sleep or even think about it," Arians said. "Until he becomes a Cardinal again, it's a waste of breath."
Washington is a supremely talented player who would certainly help the Arizona defense, but the Cards haven't missed a step.
Deonne Bucannon, Kevin Minter and Sean Weatherspoon have done an excellent job at inside linebacker in his absence, and it can be argued that the Cardinals are the Super Bowl favorites in the NFC even without one of their top defensive players.
