Brown's Injury Adds to Depth Issues in Panthers Receiving Corps
Sunday, Feb. 7
A shoulder injury slowed Brown earlier in the 2015 season, yet he still appeared in 14 regular-season games, catching 31 passes for 447 yards and four touchdowns.
Few expected much from the Panthers offense this year after Kelvin Benjamin's season-ending ACL injury. The quartet of Brown, Ted Ginn Jr., Devin Funchess and Jerricho Cotchery doesn't exactly strike fear into the heart of an opposing secondary.
However, the depleted receiving corps hasn't prevented the Panthers from being one of the best teams in the NFL in large part because of quarterback Cam Newton and tight end Greg Olsen. With that said, Ginn, Funchess, Brown and Cotchery have all had their moments in the team's run to the Super Bowl.
Given Carolina's issues at the position before Brown's injury, the team can ill afford to lose another wideout, especially at such a critical juncture.
Even if it isn't a crippling blow to the team, losing Brown will heap more pressure on Newton's shoulders, which may prove unsustainable in against a loaded Denver Broncos defense in the Super Bowl.
