Rod Wood Comments on Role as New Lions President
New Detroit Lions President Rod Wood admitted Friday that he isn't "a football guy," per CBS Detroit's Ashley Scoby, but he does think he's qualified for his new position.
"I would probably say that I’m not qualified to run any other NFL team," Wood said. "But I think I’m qualified to run this one because of the connection to the Ford family, understanding the business for the last eight years working with them.”
Wood was named team president Thursday after the franchise fired his predecessor,Tom Lewand, and general manager Martin Mayhew two weeks ago. Wood has ties with the Ford family as the former CEO of Ford Estates.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
He has no football experience and says that he'll focus solely on the business side of the Lions, and that it will be a rarity if he gets involved with personnel decisions, according to Scoby.
Crisis averted for now, but it'll be interesting to see how involved he'll be in the search for Detroit's new general manager. Wood will be on an advisory board along with owner Martha Ford and her four children.
The Lions need Wood to make smart decisions for the franchise to improve on a disappointing 2015 season, especially when it comes to naming a new general manager. The team is going to have a high draft pick in the 2016 NFL draft and a lot of work to do in general this offseason.
