ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the Seahawks placed Richardson on injured reserve and signed running back DuJuan Harris off their practice squad.
Richardson's Absence Won't Hinder Seahawks Passing Attack
In just his second year in the league, Richardson made his season debut in Week 10 against the Arizona Cardinals, catching one pass. It was a big one, though, as it went for 40 yards.
Richardson had been sidelined since he tore his ACL in January's NFC divisional round playoff game against the Carolina Panthers.
He was set to become a big part of Seattle's passing game upon his return.
"We’re going to jump him right back in. Really, we’re going to put him right back into it," said head coach Pete Carroll on Nov. 11, per Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times. "He’s had enough time now, he’s been out on the practice field, he looks great, so we’re just going to fit him in."
Richardson boasts the speed to create separation from any defender while pairing that with solid route-running ability.
Seattle's passing game has been lacking all season, ranking 27th in the league with an average of 215.2 yards per game—even with the acquisition of tight end Jimmy Graham during the offseason.
Richardson's presence could have improved that, but Seattle will have to continue trying to get the passing game going without one of its most promising young sets of hands.
